Fell ponies are brilliant! I bought one, sight unseen, from a H&H advert when I was 12!
My mother was furious, but I didn't care. Molly was a brilliant all-rounder, jumped anything she was pointed at, kind, brave and never a sick or sorry day in her life. Lasted until 26 and died in her sleep. I've had some very talented horses/ponies in my life, but she was the ultimate all-rounder.
 
As already stated although l wouldn’t sell at a sale things have changed a lot with the better horse sales in recent years. For a start there are not as many sales as previously added to this buying and selling is exceptionally time consuming so it makes sense to be able to see a few horses at the same time and only have one lot of travelling to do. For people living slightly or even very much out in the sticks unless a buyer is really keen on a horse people don’t want to travel more than 60 miles or a couple of hours. Sale prices for decent horses have retained there value and for a good one the price obtained can be as high as for a private sale added to this a seller can set a reserve and doesn’t have to sell. You can still have a vetting carried out and have a defined period of time to reject the horse if it’s not as stated but it can’t be returned 2/3/4 weeks later because the buyers has changed their mind. Some of the Brecon horses may need to be ‘rescued’ but the majority won’t and if the price isn’t high enough the will return home. In some cases listing them in a sales catalogue is not dissimilar to advertising privately, some will not appear at the sale having been sold beforehand. Although this is strongly discouraged by the sales guys it happens and is something to be aware of if only interested in one horse. Will be interested to see how the prices turn out.
 
Probably also worth reminding anyone considering buying at Brecon that auctioneers are well within their rights to run the bidding of a lot up to the reserve price (including bids coming off the wall). So make sure you are clear on the price you are willing to pay before bidding.

One of the best ponies I ever had was a fell pony! I will get myself another one at some point. They are just over size Shetlands 😂😂

I went to clitheroe recently and the price for nondescript little cobs was high there too. The little Fell at Brecon looks quite nice.
 
I do not know anything about sales really but have watched a few lots. Prices seem really low? Also pretty dis organised ? Often wrong lots in ring. Feel sorry for the horses and ponies. Not a nice experience for them.
 
Not every horse turns up for the sale and sometimes the auctioneer doesn't get this info until it doesn't appear in the ring. Then you get people with multiple entries (like the 30 cob mares) who will just punt them through in whichever order they can wrangle them out of the pens in.

It's organised chaos. The Shetlands sales are often slightly more organised but not much.

If anyone sees how much the fell pony goes for can you let me know 🙈

Looks pretty decent to me- they're only in there for a very short time, they're all making fair money (nothing selling for meat money that I've seen)
