I think this summarises it perfectly. And it isn't just horses...rescues are full to bursting with dogs, cats, rabbits and other small animals, because many people buy animals on a whim or because they're bored, not thinking about the long term of giving these animals a home for life. I have genuinely seen people selling pets with the description of 'need gone before X date because I'm going on holiday'. I find it utterly depressing and shocking.
 
One of the meat men grazes horses near here for fattening up although I don't know where they are slaughtered / processed

He will sell before then if anyone spots one they like and if he's got something too good for slaughter will try and sell that on too.

I couldn't go to the sales. I'd want to take them all home.
 
I have an old horse - 30yrs old - this time.
I have assurances from the YO, (who bred him and with whom he is on 5* full livery with his little herd of relatives) that should I die she will keep him FOC/have him pts if necessary. I have every confidence that she will do so. He will be buried with his herd relatives in the burial field in a designated area, far away from the little river tributary that borders the land.
I have also sent an email to our equine veterinary hospital that should they be unable to contact me re pts they are to act on the instructions of the YO.
 
I'm half on the lookout for a very steady driver. Everything in that category seems to become 12 yo as it walks into the dealers' yards. She must be really ancient if he feels he has to go with 14 !
 
It would have to have a passport at the sales, he wouldn't get it 'converted' that quickly. I see the Hinny on DD has a price reduced..👀
