i'm looking for a lovely brow bridle for my horse. i have gfs one now which i'm not thrilled with as the leather seems a bit odd...any recommendations?

looks nice...do you have one? how's the leather? the one i have at the moment hasn't cracked but i feel it might. i've never had a bridle do this befire despite giving them all the same treatment!

Yes I have had mine for over a year. I did oil it when it first arrived but the leather is now lovely and soft and shows no sign of cracking.

I must confess that I like Stubben, my bay has one in 'chocco' & the rose grey has a Havanna & they really look good & the quality is high as well.

Scotsmare is right - they do stretch, think they're chrome tanned rather than vegetable tanned leather or something e.g. not the quality you'd expect for the pricetag...

I am a huge fan of Sabre bridlework - I bought one second hand that looked like new & being in regular use is all it needs to keep the leather beautiful, soft and flexible.

It all depends on your budget, but there doesn't really seem to be that many reasonably priced options - it's either under £40 cheapies or above £80 or so fab ones.

If you want an SJ styled one, then Stubben are always a good choice or for dressage styled ones for heavier WBs, Kieffer do fab chunky padded nosebands.

Not personally a fan of JW or MT bridles; I think you get more for your money with Sabre.

(I have 5 bridles for one horse who I haven't even had for 2 years...)

Also surprised about GFS - glad I don't have one now.

maybe it's my treatment of the leather that's caused the problem with the gfs one, i don't know, but either way i need a new one. my mare has a sabre bridle which i love and the kate negus ones looks lovely, I will look into both. Thanks everyone

I'd have to go with the kate negus ones, I picked up a reduced one at badminton two years ago and I love it

. It fit's my boy perfectly and still looks like new.

Depends on the shape of the horses head and your budget. For a comfort bridle - best bridle quality was my albion KB - better than Kate Negus and Elevator. However, the headpiece was too long for my horse - it made browband sit too low as it couldn't be pushed up over padded bit. The bridle I am really happy with at the moment is the Passier Basic Line range - better placement of padding on headpiece and good range of options - including a drop noseband which is very hard to get for a comfort bridle where the noseband adjusts at both sides. Also have the flash which is nice and options re browband and reins. Leather quality nice and comparable to elevator and kate negus though not quite as good as Albion. Price also reasonable. It the bridle on the bay mare in my siggie.
