Bridles - why are they so boring?

I got thinking this on the most recent flash thread... Sorry OP of that thread, accidental hijack!

Thought better do me own.

Apart from shiny sparkly bling/matchymatchy tack... The majority of English tack is so boring!

Anyone know of more interesting tack from around the world?

Well yes, that is the least one would expect :D

I suppose they do have a certain appeal but unless you buy synthetic, it's Havana or black with silver or brass buckles...

Even in the UK there must be more interesting designs. Like gypsy vanner ones!
 
I really don't like the look of 'different' coloured tack but I DO like this!

They are boring because most horses are pretty on their own. And IMHO most horses don't look good at all in the "fancy pansy" bridles. Like the full leather no fuss much more
 
OOOOO! this thread is rather encouraging! I'm just starting out making tack and intend making some custom bridles,got lots & lots of ideas bouncing around and if anyone has any suggestions I'd very pleased to hear them. Going to be using best English Leather mostly, not keen on synthetic :)

I frequently dream of the day when I can purchase a baby pink bridle for my own horse from this company... I just hope they don't stop making them in the time it takes for me to convince my parents to buy me a pony:o. This is the only producer of affordable baby pink bridles I can find!

i have a purple basic bridle from this company and love it to pieces! i want the breast plate next.

Not a fan of coloured leather but I love my beaded turquoise and leopard print browband. I use it on my Micklem bridle, it's a bit different from bling and custom made. I know it's not to everyone's tastes but I really dont give a toss...

Oh dear, and I don't even really like black tack! The thing about fancy bridles is that they can highlight even minor faults in the horse's head which would be a disadvantage in the show ring.

Browbands studded with "diamonds" are easily obtainably to glitz up bridles but us side saddle riders look down our noses at those ;) (Tack has to be brown and unadorned under SSA showing rules)
 
I'm a little old fashioned & consider many of the bridles shown, despite their price, as tacky. I like English bridles, the quality of the leather & the workmanship of the fancy hand stitching you get on quality bridles is great. They are designed to be practical, work well, enhance the head of the horse, be confortable on the horse, look great & last for years.
 
Oh wow! Some amazing coloured ones and I love the baroque bridles Nadolig!! Perusing those now........... Love it!

Ellen, for showing fine, I will conform but general riding where you can do what you want, why does it have to be so dull.

Toby, tacky is in the eye of the beholder :D I am a traditionalist but I am getting thoroughly bored of BROWN.

Maybe I shouldn't have watched the LOTR trilogy all at once.... :D
 
Think I'll stick with traditional....nothing worse than bling bridles for my lad who has a head like a dinosaur so a good quality bridle with a nice wide noseband at least hides this fact a bit!!
 
I'll stick with traditional leather black or brown tack, no offence to anyone but I find the coloured tack a little bit... Tacky. But to each their own. My views coincide with garish rugs I've seen with dollar signs on, or huge multi coloured flowers on them. Yes you will spot your horse in the field, he will be the one dieing of embarrassment sulking in a corner...

What can I say I'm a traditionalist :rolleyes:

I would kill for LOTR tack! Especially Asfaloths.

Or the Rohirrim :D
