Avon Skin So Soft bath / body oil. BRILLIANT stuff!

For reference. Before (grubby!):

And after. This pic was a taken 3 days after giving his legs a rough hose down with a few squirts of SSS (no scrubbing involved!):

I'm in love. Detangled them beautifully too!

Ooohh...I wonder would this work on Hippo? She's not hairy but she is grey and rug less, so hard to keep her sparkling! Actually, I've never seen her 100% sparkling...

Possibly. I did try some on his body but it doesn't wash out too well and it left him feeling a bit oily. Saying that it did bring a LOT of the scurf and dirt to the surface of his coat, so I'm hoping a quick bath with normal shampoo will bring him up sparkly! I've never known something whiten up feather that well and that easily, though. I found pig oil to be a complete waste of time, but SSS rinsed through seems to work on him brilliantly!

I agree, its part of my essentials kit. A squirt of SSS in water when rinsing feathers and mane helps to keep the midges, mud and tangles away.

We are currently plagued by midges bugs the horses ears and making them bleed. Mine are ok thanks to SSS dry oil spray.

(I'm starting to sound like an advert but I love the stuff.)

looks good! do you have a link to the type you used? not sure what Im looking at is the same thing.

How much watering down does it need to use as fly repellent?

The dry oil spray is best for detering midges and mites but a good glug of bath oil in a bucket of water does the job too.
Don't put it all over the body as its oily and will make your saddle slip and could cause sunburn even on a dull day.

Ok, some kind person talk me through how to use on my boy (who has feather just like OP's horse and scarily similar markings!) I'm buying it on eBay right now!

Don't forget to put it on yourself when you're going out with short sleeves, too! Lovely soft skin, nice smell and you won't get bitten either :D (it won't protect against the sun, though - not that that worries me!)

I used it on very thin-skinned loan horse previously and then on H last year. We were the least bitten on the yard!

I have a black cob with what should be white feathers too - so would also like to know how to use this please.

Step by step? Wet feather with hosepipe. Give a reasonable squirt of SSS to each leg, a rough massage through and rinse with hosepipe. That was all we did, but try it and see what works (for example, he didn't have any real clumps of mud due to being on fairly sandy soil, it was more just grubby and tangled). First time I've tried the stuff on feathers, and I stumbled across it because I couldn't find any shampoo!!

Fabulous, thank you! So hose thoroughly (he's on icky bog mud!), get friend to feed endless polos so he'll stand still, squirt on, rub in. Never let him out to get dirty again! Have sparkling horse forever more! Fab!

I used the dry oil last year for fly repellant, works on people as well,
a lot of the armed forces use it for overseas postings, it beats what the army offers, the best bit is my boy stood like a dream to be done, instead of charging round his box trying to avoid aerosols
I squirt the tail and mane before turn out and brush through, then do the body and tummy, it really is brilliant stuff
