My mare is about to come back in to work after a year off :) She suffered an injury to her wither which impacted on her spinal cord but somehow she has come through it :)

Im worried as the injury was on her wither/spinal cord about sitting on her and whether i should try to build up some topline on her first? I dont know the best way of doing this? Or whether it would make a difference?

Would you walk out in hand for a few weeks/months first? Would you lunge her? Im not in a rush to get back on her and would rather take my time and get it right. Even if it takes another 6 months....

Thanks for any advice :)

As above - I think only your vet can really advise you about the best way to do this as they know the nature of the injury and how it has healed.

Personally I probably wouldn't walk out in hand but lunging to build topline for a few weeks sounds like a sensible idea. But I'd definitely check with your vet first.
