British Dressage Imploding

Things continue to cause disquiet see Pammy Hutton's Dressage comment in yesterdays edition of H&H. What BD have done to her with regard The Young Dressage Professional series is utterly shameful especially as it was started by her mother then continued by Pammy and hosted at Talland using Talland horses.

It’s quite a worrying time for BD - I do wonder if there will be an independent enquiry at some stage (was that what happened with cycling? I’m not too up to speed).

There is so much rumour flying around it’s hard to know what is justified in terms of questioning and what is just unfair speculation.

Either way it isn’t leaving a warm fuzzy feeling - I’ve been debating whether to renew my membership but I think I’m going to hold off for now and filter funds into training and BE and just utilise unaff dressage if at all

It is all kicking off on the alternative forum today with new 'gossip' :eek3: I am really quite bemused about it all and where iit will end....

I don't think you'll be the only one :(
I will keep up with mine because I don't have a sensible alternative for Kira now, I can get unaff Advanced Medium once a month round here in a PYO but that's as far as it goes. I will probably register new horse as it's just easy for me to keep it all together. But I worry that the bottom might fall out of the affiliated sport a bit if people are getting really fed up with all this

^ Same for me MP, nowhere for Topaz to go now really though I will not be registering Skylla anytime soon... She was an associate but they want to charge for the privilege so until she's going to be competitive she can stick unaff, so a wonderful own goal there :rolleyes3:

Precisely. I thought I could pootle around gold prelims but in hindsight I’ve got better places to spend my cash

possibly best not to, given the way the thread has gone! it's hard to tell what is rumour, what is fact, and what is complete codswallop. I plan to just keep my head down and hope for the best I think :(

Yeah it was apparent gossip from someone in the know in the BD office, stirring up the angst thats being going on, but unconfirmed and potentially malicious...

Link to alternative forum further up this thread - wow that is a nasty little stirring post on there, I do wonder what motivates people. And that's without reading any of the replies!

I dont care about gossip, but I think its obvious that BD have many issues at the moment, and I think its very sad, they seem to be behaving very badly in many ways. Unfortunately I dont have another competitive option with my horses, but I have plenty of clients who have declined to renew their memberships, and I totally agree with them.

Why isn't there a competitive alternative I wonder?

Read the replies, you'll see several people questioning the accuracy of the quoted gossip and stating they are uncomfortable with this sort of 'dirt' being thrown around.

Interested to know, what is the alternative to BE or BSJA? everyone seems very keen to set up an alternative to BD but not the others?

Perhaps there ought to be alternatives all round. Promote healthy competition, variety etc. Didn't CRC start a dressage one? What happened to that?

The OP in the thread on the alternative dressage forum has removed the incendiary posting as it was met with general disapproval by the rest of the forumites.

BD will be fine, just give them a chance to sort things out. They have had some problems but nothing that can’t be corrected if the member ship got behind them.

Even if the Chairman is not the best she only has a couple more years to go and someone else will be taking over, that is if anyone is mad enough to want the job after this last couple of weeks.

I don’t quite understand Pammy’s column this week. The Young Professionals award grew out of the Talent Spoting scheme and I thought was the brain child of Islay Auty who took the final to Talland but had always been a BD thing not a Talland thing.

The Young Professionals award has been taken over by the BEF now and no longer run by BD so not sure how BD could take it away from Talland as not theirs to take away.

I have visited the other forum but found too much gossip founded on suspect information with everyone else jumping on the band wagon of BD bashing, all rather unpleasent.
