Last tuesday Harley snapped half of one of his nails off :( Trip to the vet, got given a lampshade, he trimmed it tidy and told me to try and keep it clean because if it got infected he may have to have it removed.

So nearly a week on.... He can lick it even with a lampshade on. The vet wasn't keen on bandaging it, but I tried and he fiddles with it and then goes lame.... So generally it is covered if we're going out, otherwise supervised to make sure he leaves it alone!

But my main concern is that although it looked better after a couple of days, it hasn't really improved since. It isn't angry red, just fleshy red.

Can anyone roughly tell me how long it will take to heal up? At the moment because it has to be covered when he's outside, he has to stay on the lead, and he is FULL of beans!

Darcy has done a similar thing, yesterday somehow she has cut into the front face of the nail. Ive cleaned it up and thought it best to let the air get to it but today she dug a hole in the field and made it bleed again. Ive soaked it in cold salty water, dried it off and Im going to wait and see if it heals if Im not happy a trip to the vet will be in order. I was there yesterday with the pup who got stung on the lip which swelled up but by the time we had got to the vet it had gone down. But we have some Piriton tablets so she dosnt react. Blooming dogs who would have them.
