Broncing into canter

He's honestly so sweet on the ground, very good natured pony I really hope I haven't scarred us both for life!

He looks gorgeous.

I don't think he'll hold anything against you. Look what we do to them: stuff foul-tasting muck down their gobs... well, that's about the worst thing really, and they don't bat an eyelid at that.
 
And yes he was tried by myself and vetted and passed said vetting. He was wonderful on both tries; his canter transition was if anything a little "slow" in that he fell into it (young cob type clumsiness I assume)

Could he just be very unbalanced and panicking when he can't get his legs in the right order? I haven't read all the posts but a fresh young horse, clumsy and unbalanced in a new situation and with tack that might not be quite right - I probably wouldn't panic about him being in pain yet, see what the vet and saddle fitter say first. Hopefully it's just a bad start, he sounds lovely, I hope you can enjoy the first few weeks without worrying too much.
