Me again...

My bloody stirrup leathers are leaving massive bruises on the inside of my legs and it’s starting to get annoying seeing as I’m flying to Spain next week and my legs don’t exactly look summer ready! (Aside from being so white that I’m 99.9999% I’m a health and safety hazard, these babies could blind someone!!)

I know it’s probably a lot to do with my lower leg position but has anyone got any ideas how I can stop it? Many thanks!

Do you wear chaps?
I never noticed how many bruises I have until this heatwave forced me to wear skirts.

I’m wearing my country boots when not at competitions, however I think I neee to invest in some good fall boots or chaps. I’m 6ft tall so struggle to get chaps/boots long enough! Stirrup leathers are always flat, irritates me when they aren’t :)

Never really thought about this before but I used to get the odd bruise from stirrup leathers but haven’t noticed it so much lately! Might be my riding has changed as I have been working on being more relaxed through my leg and not clamping it on. But I’m also in a different saddle and leathers so that could explain it too! If I fold my stirrups over to ride without then I get them again, and I do bruise quite easily, so too much pressure is def a likely possibility. I’d recommend having proper jodh’s/breeches n boots or chaps too if you’re not wearing those as that Might help?.

ETA can’t help on the pasty white legs, Haha, that’s just us riders! Do you have a good t shirt tan too?

If you find any chaps that are long enough, let me know since I'm also 6ft. I have exact same problem with boots or chaps and I think the problem is them not being long enough. I have slightly less bruising with chaps but that may simply be that my chaps are a tad taller than my boots or possibly because they are closer fitting thus providing better protection.

You probably just bruise easily. I always get bruises if not wearing good long boots or chaps. Are the country boots quite loose, could just be those moving against your leg.

i bruise quite easily. My long boots are basically m2m (though 2nd hand, I buy brands that you can choose height and calf width) so they are super long and that, combined with keeping me leg relaxed against the horse helps to avoid it. won't mention the sores that I get behind the knee breaking in said long boots....

I'd seek out some really well fitting chaps or boots for next time, OP :)

I still have marks on my legs from two sessions over 15 months ago when I started riding again. I learned my lesson and used long thick socks and then bought some half chaps. It has not happened again, but I was amazed by the rapidity with which the bruising appeared, and I don't bruise easily.

No help but I have a lovely semi-permeant bruise on my forearm from swinging my western saddle up onto my horse. I make sure I lower it gently so horse is OK but developing a new horsey bruise this late in life was a bit of a surprise. I suppose that like my legs it will toughen up :D Upside is with nice flat wide fenders legs don't get pinched regardless of what you wear.
