BS - What Considered the Correct Turnout for Horse and Rider

DD - you're right, a handful/faceful of mane would not be so grand . It will be in a running plait so out of the way

Lol, don't mind short manes :D. Each to their own :D :D :D

L - White boots huh? :D Like the sound of the browband :D

White boots = 2 pairs (one for everyday and one for best!) No jumping pics but here are the boots when he was a skinny minnie! Pink equine for the browband too :D

Well having gone along to BSJA at the weekend to cheer on FlyingCoo... it would appear that adopting a You've-Been-Tangoed/Ooompa Loopma look is en vogue?! :p FC and I were both a bit  at points and wishing we'd had sunglasses on...! ;)

On a more serious note... smart and clean is the way forward. I guess the mane should really be either pulled short and tidy or plaited but it's not going to get you eliminated either way...

This was Hopalong and I doing some BSJA Nov '09, basically in the same outfit that I wear for dressage/ BE DR & SJ. :) (We have the teeniest amount of dead sheep inside tendon boots but that's because she was a princess about neoprene lined ones not being comfy enough... and it's balanced out by the yellow tag on my hat labelling me an eventer surely?! ;) )

Ive not done BS just unaffiliated and I always wear black jacket, collar shirt, white breeches (I hate the cream ones). Horse tack what horse wears everyday and I dont plait up. I certainly dont do the blingy thing.

oh, one of these topics where eventers feel they can look down on and slag off showjumpers!!
the difference between show jumping and eventing, is show jumping is prioritised around comfort and skill, whereas eventing is very much 'how tidy can i look?'! *rollseyes*

show jumpers generally don't plait unless we are in FEI competitions, as we feel the horses are able to stretch more naturally, and bascule with their necks over the fences unplaited. Plaiting can be very restrictive.
So no, we are not lazy, just smart.

I agree, we always look smart but unplaited, no bling, no fake tan & small amount of dead sheep in tendon boots. I much prefer my lovely Equiport jacket to a hens poo green tweed any day. I used to event & enjoyed it, but you will never really fit in unless you are known by a childhood nickname have a double barrelled surname & address your mum as "mummy".

My eventer friend jumped my new mare at a few shows for me, he kept saying "How can you warm up only on one rein" & at the end of the first ever round the classic line "Who builds these courses? Why the hell was that last bit so twisty?" Err because its the jump off!! I was also horrified when he arrived at the first show dressed in a skull cap & TWEED! OMG!! I said "You can't wear that, we are show jumpers!" So clearly the dress code thing is perceived as odd from both sides.

Lol.

A lovely friendly natter on turnout :D :D :D

Ta for the bit about the bascule :D. Have told D1 and now she's considering having the mane pulled/cut...

Very smart picture FJ :D

I have just bought her a black leather five point breastplate - with a couple of patches of sheep on it :rolleyes::D:D

Mrs M - OMG! 5 point breastplate, you will be identified forever as an eventer should your horse venture out wearing such an item...

Nooooo not sheep!!!! Bad mum for buying such a non showjumper bit of kit as well :D :D Oh and you might get frowned apon by the purests for having black tack

I have to admit i think a trimed mane will look much neater in the overall picture. I will expect pics when she is all kitted out :D

I know.

Me bad.

:eek::rolleyes:

But, it did come in useful yesterday as extra handholds :D

Um.

Currently a brown saddle (because GM is a loan horse and the brown saddle I had fitted her :D :D :D), a black bridle (ditto), and a black breastplate...

Hm.

Ooops.
