If you have a registered BSJA pony, is there any option to ride in BSJA horse classes on a ticket, hors concours or something else ... to see if the pony is capable, can cope with striding etc, over the course of a few shows before committing yourself to making an official change?

I know it is possible to reregister a pony as a horse, but heard it was difficult to swap back. Or is it that a subsequent owner can swap back to pony classes, but not yourself?

Would be very interested to hear from anyone who has successfully changed a pony to a horse ... or indeed tried, and found it didn't work out.

Also, what would be the rules for doing low-level BE eventing on a pony ... is there the same distinction between pony and horse classes?

Pony is 147.6 cms, rider is rising 18!

My Harry is 146.5, so can be registered as a horse for BSJA. I have jumped him on a ticket before with seniors and he did very well. Although you have to watch the striding and know your pony well enough whether to add an extra one in a double if its very long, which i am sure you do!
I am also doing Grasshoppers Pre-novice on him on the 18th, which will be agianst horses!

Our 148 competes BE up to Novice and never has a problem, she is long striding though and is built like a Kangaroo, much bigger behind. She also jumps Open lebel at PC Area. 1.15 tracks with trebles etc.

My ja pony has been registered bsja as a pony, as a horse, then back as a pony, then as a horse and then back to a pony! cant see how her previous owners managed to do that!

You can register a pony to do seniors, but it has to remain in seniors for the length of that years' membership, ie. you can change back to do juniors, but only after their membership has expired.

It'd depend on the pony as to whether you'd do it, as some can't cope with the striding in seniors. My daughters' first horse (15h), has got a huge pop in him, but struggles with the distances anything bigger than 1.10m. He'll always take a pole out in a double, as he just can't make the distance.

You can take an unregistered pony and jump on a ticket in a senior competition, no problem.

Best ring the BSJA and ask about jumping on a ticket but I can't see why not. I have 2 JA's and have jumped both as horses and ponies, the smaller one made very light work of the horse classes and got the striding very comfortably but the bigger one that I expected to be the better one couldn't get the striding at all and returned to pony classes asap. I think the rules on changing ponies to horses and back again have changed slightly and now you can only do it on a change of ownership.

Change of ownership was the old rules.. its now changeable when you renew membership.

I jumped my reg pony in a senior class on a ticket... Use their stable name or something instead of 'real' name if you're worried but i don't see why the BSJA would worry if you're on a ticket + HC as a result. Why don't you just go for the clear round beforehand?
