Some may remember our freddie came with a nasty bucking habit and whilst I managed to stay aboard, it was really beginning to affect my nerve!
Everytime you pushed for a little hard work he argued with a huge buck or series of big ones!
In my desperation I ordered one of those "Buck Stops" for £19, it came the next day, it is similar to daisy rein but does not come into action at all unless the horse actually tries to plant its nose down to buck!
Well, amazingly having hacked him in it and today schooling, pushing him big time to see if he could and would buck when I asked some harder questions, he tried hacking the other day to buck but gave up and settled really well...and tonight, he had a hissy fit in the school when he couldnt interupt the schooling by throwing himself around!
It doesnt hurt them, it was certainly better for me as I relaxed more and he ended up doing some fantastic work once he had tried to throw his toys out of the pram!!
So if anyone has a "bucking" problem, caused entirely by hi jinks and stubborness, I wholeheartedly recommend them.
However, if you havent checked backs, teeth and other physical bits n bobs, get that done first!!! If you are then convinced it is naughtyness or evasiveness, go for it!!!
BTW it does not affect their outline whatsoever if fitted properly it literally comes into play when they nose dive to buck by lifting the bit slightly higher in the mouth as a rider would do to stop them doing it!! - meaning you dont have to think about the bucking!!
I plan to leave it on for many months until he simply forgets...ok well maybe it may happen!
