The reason to purge the thread and then lock it, but let it remain as a lifeless zombie is simply to be able to pretend simultaneously that you are "allowing" discussion and free exchange of ideas (while aggressively removing any other discussion on the matter) and effectively strangling it, forcing the original thread to sink down the list into oblivion and preventing any resurrection of its contents. Hoping that you can just sweep all the unpleasantness under the rug. Just basic control of the narrative. Utterly deplorable and manipulative, and quite effective. At least now one knows what side the powers that be are on.

Exactly TP, well said.

It is in no way in Time Inc's interest to leave the thread there to be found on a Google search, but they have.

It is not a lifeless zombie thread, it is out there to be found on a Google search.

I, for one, think that admin did well not to pull it altogether, and they deserve credit for that.

Oh, it'll sink soon enough in the google search as well and the whole thing can be forgotten and buried, but sure, be happy with the admin team and compliment them frequently on their not entirely overt censorship on the issue. Maybe that'll do you some good.

This isn't true. Zombie threads are regularly reactivated up to a decade dormant because they still come really high up Google search lists. HHO is clearly tuned to hit the search engines.

You are attacking someone who spoke out on the locked thread - my posts are still there.

Best direct your ire elsewhere ?‍♀️.

Google search regularly turns up old HHO threads.

I think if you read through the relevant threads you'll see that H&H and the forum admin team have taken some flak from members over this and other things, so they don't get off that lightly.

However, regular members also appreciate the fact that this forum exists and that, for the most part, they are quite velvet gloved in their approach to what we get up to.

This is a free resource which a lot of us find very useful, on many levels.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. As a locked thread it's not going to be activated ever again, and that's going to push it down at a great speed. There are always going to be people making domain-specific searches, but that's a tiny minority. That tiny minority is often enough to keep a subject alive, nut that's not a possibility in this case. The vast majority of people will look at the first 3 pages of a google search and be content with that.

A singular, sanitised & locked thread with a concurrent subject ban on the most prominent site on a subject matter is pretty much the most effective way to kill a discussion, and that's what been done here.

Well, clearly the general readership around here on the whole likes the big brother keeping unsavory things off the radar (so utterly unpleasant and wholly unnecessary drama, dear), so bully for you, I guess. You do you, and I'll find people who might give a damn somewhere else.

You've only engaged with three of us, but bye then.
