Burghley Dressage results...

I'm not Anti AN at all, I've liked him a lot as a rider in the past, but I was pointing out that Ruth is probably the best dressage rider in eventing around, and one of the best dressage riders in dressage too

Hes a hard jock IMO. I wont go into the full ins and outs, but hes not overly pleasant rider. Isnt very stylish (im fully aware style doesnt always win prizes).
I have no problem with his manner - I dont talk to him

Sorry Halfstep, didn't mean you really, I was referring to the slightly snide giggling on the thread by several others... Don't want to make a big thing, just a bit annoyed by the playground bitching! (Wow, I must be in a bad mood - probably the rain

as lui says.
i had nothing against AN before, he's been very nice and chatty to me in the past, but i detested the way he rode in HK and the fact that after that horrible fall (god alone knows how that horse got its front legs out and managed to stay up, it was so nearly an awful rotational fall, very lucky that the top of the fence was brush) he didn't even seem to glance at the horse, check it over, give it a bit of a fuss, nothing.
i know i've gone on about it before, but that good old horse deserved better than that. the fall was jockey error, not horse's fault imho.

Not too bad a score for FC, hasn't he blown up a bit in the past?

I remember seeing him do his fabulous test at Badminton 2 years back - then after that its all been very below par.
Hes a fast xc horse, always reminds me of the two shear greys as in looking unenthusiastic xc and not actually going anywhere but he obviously does.

Be interesting to see how he runs saturday

Re: Kerilli: I saw that too and agree nasty fall - with anyone else horse would have stopped, Andrew so strong he forced him to jump with the, possibly inevitable, consequence. Not a good moment, probably not one he's proud of. However, as far as checking him over is concerned, he's so experienced and has a very good record in this respect (remember him jumping off immediately when had the problem at the arena fence at Burghley), similarly, straight off sorting things at Badminton this year. Honestly don't believe he would have compromised thew horse's welfare in a serious way. As far as the softer side is concerned, I agree with you really but that's not his style, nor for many of the male riders on the circuit. I don't think they have the same sort of relationship with their horses that we do and that many of the lady riders do. I don't think AN's horses do get much of a fuss, but they do get one of the best xc jockeys in the world helping them with their job, and they're probably grateful for that most of the time!

Ho hum, I've finished defending him, I don't really feel that strongly either way and - of course - everyone entitled to their own opinions. I'm just uncomfortable with unreasoned negativity and people jumping on other people's band-wagons. As long as neither of those apply here, feel free to slag him off as much as you like

Hmm, I'm not going to take sides here as I don't really think that there are sides and if there are I don't think I'm on one or the other but............

Tabledancer you have just stirred the darkest recesses of my memory (dangerous thing to do

). I was standing next to the arena fence at Burghley last year and AN was off his horse and had checked its leg before most jockeys would have had time to recover their position. Whatever has happened since I was very impressed with that.

fair enough. i wasn't expecting him to give the horse a huge cuddle and a kiss, but a kind word and a pat (which i've seen him do plenty of other times fwiw) wouldn't have gone amiss imho, however disappointed he was etc. I agree that he did the right thing, immediately, at Burghley last year and at Badders this year.
i guess i'm a bit bitter about him getting the ride on P Ed too, i can think of lots of riders i'd much rather the horse had gone to!

Yes at Badminton a few of the younger riders could have learnt from the speed with which he pulled his horse up and jumped off when he realised it had broken down.

Reading this also just reminded me of when (as other's have said) he was straight off his horse at Burghley when it's shoe/foot caught on that fence. I didn't see his Hong Kong round so can't comment there but I'm very intrested to see how MI goes under him this weekend.

Dunno why. He just does

I feel for Vicky Brake. That horse was awesome at Badminton, if only his stressage was better he'd be right up there as hes so ace across country.

I used to ride Mr Pracatan too, don't ya know! Used to exercise him for the owners anyway. Lovely horse and has been very consistent at 4* over the years. I'm not in touch with the owners any more but it could have been something like being a bit overshadowed by the rest of the Hoy horses? I had thought it was to drop him back to 3* as he's getting on a bit but have been proved wrong now!
He had a few different jockeys early on in his career. (Matt Ryan and Clayton Fredricks spring to mind).
