Burghley stallion parade.

shame the organises of the parade did not think to give out a list of the stallions present, or include something in the programme,

There was a lady handing out a sheet with infomation on the stallions taking part in the parade . She had loads of them and was quiet happy to hand one out

I know some stallions owners were under the impression that they were paying to be one of 12 or 15 stallions filling the lunchtime slot, and were surprsed to find 20 plus,

Which stallion owners were they

everyone I saw and spoke to seemed very happy to be a part of the parade and was very up-beat about the whole thing

including the numbers

and there was no way of working out who was who, if you missed the commentary on a particular horse

[/ QUOTE ]

Each rider was wearing a numbered bib - which was listed with the stallions details on the hand out sheet

There certainly wasnlt any oversight as far as that was concerned, but with (as I said) at least 3 stallions withdrawing on the day and about 8 in total in the week beforehand any catalogue listing provided in the Burghley programme (which went to press at least 1 month before) would have been impossible and there was no emchanism to get a loose insert put in by the catalgue sellers -- as anyone who has experience of organising such a parade at public (as distinct from dedicated events) would tell you.

In fact the lady handing out the stallion list was wearing a bright yellow floursecent gillet so that everyone could see her. However, if anyone would like a list of the stallions and their numbers/contact details and didn'tget one from her on the day then PM me with your e-mail address and I will send you one as a Word file.

We asked several people about stud cards and lists and no one knew where they were or if there were any, also it was very difficult to get a good view of the stallions if you were on the side of the arena nearest the collecting ring, as they all went to the far side. Shame such a good opportunity to show off some good stallions was wasted for te sake of moving a few barriers!

See my previous post about the stallion list and PM me with your e-mail address if you want further details.

The rails could not be moved as to do so would have completely disrupted the wiring of the scoring mechanism, loudspeakers etc. As I have said earlier the PSHP was invited to put on the parade and it is not good manners to demand such changes when you are a guest and requiring such a re-arrangement of the arena (especially as the stallions were not allowed to use the dressage arena anyway under FEI rules) would have meant that the stallion parade could not have happened. But then increasingly some people on this list make a habit of making short-sighted *demands* without even thinking that the reason why what they demanded was not in place was becuase it was impossible for even the people with many years experience of putting on stallion parades (and who are perfectly well aware of what the ideal situation should be)to negotiate as a requirement of holding the parade.

As I asked before would you rather there had been no parade becuase the conditions you thought essential/demand cannot be met or are you willing to take a broader view that the fact that the organisers at Burghley actually approached the PSHP to put one on was a significant step forward for British breeding in view of the general ignorance / indifference the competition world takes as to the animals they ride?

Forgive me for being nosy but why are you baised, is he yours ?

I think that was meant to me about MJ Fine Art?

No, not mine, but he's very local to me, as in 4 miles away, happens to be 'my type' of horse and I have been acquainted with the owners for many years.

wish I could have made it. Interesting to hear some feedback. I know Garuda K impressed a few people I had spoken to, and nice to hear some other impressions, and hopefully this can become a regular feature at Burghely.

British breeders need all the bloody help they can get in this economic climate
