What a fantastic weekend we have had. I'm shattered but I'm so sad it's over, I want to go back and do it again!
It started off on friday with the open novice arena event. I've never done anything like this before but it was great fun. My boy skipped round just having the first part of the bounce down (which was tiny...typical!) I was very surpised to get 8s for our sj and xc style (they must have been ignoring the numptie on top and just looking at my little dude!) We ended up 3rd and got a nice cheque too!
Onto saturday, up bright and early for the trot up. I was quite nervous beforehand as it's a new experience for me. He passed fine though
Dressage... he did a really nice test, or so I thought, no mistakes and he tried hard. His canter especially felt really good, so I was very dissappointed to get 67.2
which left us in 20th place out of 27. The judges didn't have a nice word to say really but oh well that's dressage isn't it. Went back to the stable and had a wee cry with keats lol
Did sj this morning, I was almost sick when I walked it. Big square oxers everywhere, a combination at 3 and lots of turns. Don't know how we managed it but we pinged round for a great clear! I was over the moon as it was by far the biggest course we've done in ages!
The time seemed influential too but keats is quite a fast show jumper and doesn't need big turns so we didn't get any.
I'd walked the xc twice, once with the lovely coaching development lady (don't know her name
) and to put it nicely I was pooping myself about it. There were only about 9 fences I was confident about! When I was warming up, I kept hearing about everyone having stops, particularly at number 3, and ruth edge falling off. This did not fill me with confidence! Don't know what I was worried about though, Keats was mega! Had a couple of hairy moments though. He spooked a bit at the first part of number 3, took a stride out and ballooned it, and I was nearly at the other end of the field before I could circle back to the angled logs at b & c (we were allowed to circle here as the TA thought it was too difficult to expect everyone to go straight) This detour cost us a lot of time but he popped through the logs great when I got there. Carried on fine until the big parallel rails at six when I didn't see a stride, tried to make him wait for a shorter one but nope he took off from miles away resulting in me with my reins at the buckle end whilst making a very scared squeek! I don't know why I worry about his scope sometimes!
The photographer was there so the photos should be...interesting!
We carried on to the terrifing trakhener, we got a little close but jumped it ok. He was ace through the water which was a decent double in, up a hill and jump over the tail of the snake
Jumped the dreaded skinny duck great, over the helsinki rails, popped sweetly off the huge bungie drop and was great over the rest (several huge fliers at the nice big ones but that's Keatsy for you
) He finished full of running, still pulling my arms out. I was over the moon with him, it's unbelievable to think back to when I first got him, we were both as useless as each other, we regularly got eliminated in 2' sj classes and he wouldn't go anywhere near a water jump! And now we have just got a double clear at our first international! I can't quite believe it
In the end we got 19 time faults which isn't surprising due to our detour and the fastest in the class got 5 time anyway with several getting 40 odd time even though they went clear! Ended up 9th but rossetes only went up to 8th which is a bit sad but to make up for it we've got our first 2 shiney BE points, hehe I'm so excited!
Thanks for reading and I would share my glass of champage but sorry I've finished it
haha
