What a fantastic weekend we have had. I'm shattered but I'm so sad it's over, I want to go back and do it again!

It started off on friday with the open novice arena event. I've never done anything like this before but it was great fun. My boy skipped round just having the first part of the bounce down (which was tiny...typical!) I was very surpised to get 8s for our sj and xc style (they must have been ignoring the numptie on top and just looking at my little dude!) We ended up 3rd and got a nice cheque too!

Onto saturday, up bright and early for the trot up. I was quite nervous beforehand as it's a new experience for me. He passed fine though

Dressage... he did a really nice test, or so I thought, no mistakes and he tried hard. His canter especially felt really good, so I was very dissappointed to get 67.2

which left us in 20th place out of 27. The judges didn't have a nice word to say really but oh well that's dressage isn't it. Went back to the stable and had a wee cry with keats lol

Did sj this morning, I was almost sick when I walked it. Big square oxers everywhere, a combination at 3 and lots of turns. Don't know how we managed it but we pinged round for a great clear! I was over the moon as it was by far the biggest course we've done in ages!

The time seemed influential too but keats is quite a fast show jumper and doesn't need big turns so we didn't get any.

I'd walked the xc twice, once with the lovely coaching development lady (don't know her name
blush.gif
) and to put it nicely I was pooping myself about it. There were only about 9 fences I was confident about! When I was warming up, I kept hearing about everyone having stops, particularly at number 3, and ruth edge falling off. This did not fill me with confidence! Don't know what I was worried about though, Keats was mega! Had a couple of hairy moments though. He spooked a bit at the first part of number 3, took a stride out and ballooned it, and I was nearly at the other end of the field before I could circle back to the angled logs at b & c (we were allowed to circle here as the TA thought it was too difficult to expect everyone to go straight) This detour cost us a lot of time but he popped through the logs great when I got there. Carried on fine until the big parallel rails at six when I didn't see a stride, tried to make him wait for a shorter one but nope he took off from miles away resulting in me with my reins at the buckle end whilst making a very scared squeek! I don't know why I worry about his scope sometimes!

The photographer was there so the photos should be...interesting!
We carried on to the terrifing trakhener, we got a little close but jumped it ok. He was ace through the water which was a decent double in, up a hill and jump over the tail of the snake
grin.gif
Jumped the dreaded skinny duck great, over the helsinki rails, popped sweetly off the huge bungie drop and was great over the rest (several huge fliers at the nice big ones but that's Keatsy for you
wink.gif
) He finished full of running, still pulling my arms out. I was over the moon with him, it's unbelievable to think back to when I first got him, we were both as useless as each other, we regularly got eliminated in 2' sj classes and he wouldn't go anywhere near a water jump! And now we have just got a double clear at our first international! I can't quite believe it
smile.gif

In the end we got 19 time faults which isn't surprising due to our detour and the fastest in the class got 5 time anyway with several getting 40 odd time even though they went clear! Ended up 9th but rossetes only went up to 8th which is a bit sad but to make up for it we've got our first 2 shiney BE points, hehe I'm so excited!

Gorgeous horse!

Shame about the dressage comments, he looks super though and I guess if you were pleased with him thats what counts. Well done on the points!

Wow, that's fantastic huge well done!

Your horse is gorgeous and I can sympathise with you on the rosette front - I came 9th yesterday and rosettes went down to 8th too - but that was only Intro!

Thanks guys.

jumptoit - yeah I don't really understand why they all can't just go up to 10th, surely it can't cost much for 2 extra bits of ribbon. It doesn't matter if it's intro or bigger, it is such an achievement to get placed at BE and it's really nice to have something tangible to take away to prove you've done it! It's also nice to be able to go to the prize giving and have everyone give you a clap

hehe

smile.gif
I will always remeber when I had that wee shot on him and couldn't slow him down

WOW! You look great I love your boy!
He has so much presence in the photos of the trot up! (what is his breeding?)
Congrats on rising from 20th to 9th!

PS Do you think you could lend us some sun? We are approaching 40 days straight of rain and I am honestly looking into building an ark!

Well done. The pics are the best I've seen on here. They take you through nearly all you did well done. This is the first time I have read any of your reports or seen Keats (he's beautiful). I shall be watching now for these posts

I soooo WANT your horse! If you're going to Blair you'd better sleep in your stable or I'm coming to horsenap him to do BSJA with - he's totally fab, looks so much fun! Well done on what sounds like a really productive weekend, shame the stressage judges were harsh!

Your horse is gorgeous and has little springs in his feet!

How big is he? He reminds me of my young horse, if she ends up jumping half as nice I'll be over the moon!

Well done

Well Done. I was hiding in bus on Friday (there was no way I was standing out in that rain
tongue.gif
) and everyone in there was admiring Keats and were so upset when they were told you had one down, as that jump was hidden from the judges. The assistant TA said he wanted a bigger Keats for himself.

I found these of you Pro Photos

I could see a fair bit of your round on Sunday and you looked so good. Here are the photos I got of you.

Excellent report. Very well done.

Shame about the ribbon though, you would have thought a 1* could have ribbons to 10th.
