Last year, Reggie was one of the unfortunate horses who came a cropper over unfixed XC fences at a local hunter trial.
He went back this year to do the 90cm. On walking it, Al decided to just do the 1m. Course photos here:

It was fairly hefty though, with some Novice fences chucked in for good measure and many many skinnies. It was just going to be a learning round though... There was mild apprehension over these:
As last year he stopped and Al came off at the smaller version of them, marking the start of the skinny saga.
As they started warming up, the heavens opened and within minutes they were both soaked through, poor beggars! Set off very steadily as he had no studs in and isn't very fit yet.
Well, he was the biggest star around. Locked on to every fence and pretty much read Al's mind- they were on a misser of a stride through the pig arcs and she lost her reins and her line, but he stayed locked on and pinged through. Even the best schoolmaster would have been justified in skipping out, but he was a pro
He made everything look stupidly easy overall!

Of course, having been a water baby all his life (we've had to actually drag him out of the water before when he's been playing in it at the end of a schooling session...) he decided that he was wet enough, thanks and nearly refused to go in. He's never done that before, and hopefully won't try it again!
This was the only other sticky moment that's hard to appreciate in the video- poor pony slipped on take off and couldn't get his legs up in time so chested the fence. His momentum took him over and he used his insane 5th leg skills to land as though nothing had happened. Very clever pony, and I impressed Al stayed on. The photographer got it on camera and it looks marginally unrecoverable. Message me if you want to see the impressive recovery, but it's watermarked so can't go on here
Al has 20% off any purchases with SupaStuds this year, so is treating herself to the posh package
To top off a lovely day, they even came 5th (they were very steady, as you can see so didn't expect a placing). I think Al is still beaming about how clever her boy was
Some photos for your delectation:
(Reg went on a flier to this, in a "I LOVE this!" sort of way. Al said his ears were pricked the whole way round and he was full of his own importance about how very good he was
Very pleased for them!
I can offer a lot of tea and oat cakes for getting this far- I am doing many reports/ lab write ups but also have many concerts to play in so everything is getting a bit middle-of-the-night-ish!!
