Just wondering whether anyone has seen this before. I took my mare for a SJ lesson this evening, and when we got back she 'burped' twice on the walk back from the trailer.

I've only ever seen this sort of gurgley-burp thing with a horse that colicked so immediately went into panic mode! She seemed absolutely fine though, when we got back she had a huge wee and then tucked into her haynet as if she hadn't eaten for a week.

2 hrs later I've just been back to check her again as I couldn't stop thinking about it. She is quiet in her box, has eaten some hay and gut sounds are normal. No poo yet but she did 4 while we were out (normal for her as she gets excited travelling).

Anyone else seen this? I didn't think horses could burp!

Hmmm, horses don't usually burp. Maybe she was in a bit of discomfort if she needed a huge wee and it was more of a grunt than a burp? If she's OK in herself then I guess there's nothing to worry about.

Mmmm, maybe she was just bursting, it was rather like Niagra Falls! She will usually wee in the trailer but obviously didn't fancy it today. It did really seem like a burp though, more gurgle-y than grunty

I hope she's ok milliepops. If it's any consolation (and to the great delight of my very envious OH!) I used to have a wonderful ned who could fart in time with his trot steps as we hacked through the woods!

Bless, that's very talented! She seems totally fine this morning. It's our last event of the season this weekend and I think she is just doing everything in her power to panic me before then

My horse quite often does little burps when she is eating her feed, or sometimes when she is dozing. It doesn't seem to cause any problems.

Farra our new four year old does little burp noises - she is not stressed, she does is when she is in the field, being groomed, but not when ridden.

She eats well, has never had colic, being a clydesdale is not a stressy type so we have just put it down to her being a bit odd.
