Just in case you thought I'd had a dressage diva drama, or taken a liking to hospital food (again:o): nope, neither is the case, I've just had a busy few days and laptop meltdown. Apologies to anyone who I've inadvertently ignored:(, I'll catch up later.

Firstly my Friday: this was taken up with sheet-;)shovelling and pony-polishing before setting off cross country schooling with Marty (ably piloted by Sarah) and Cal (now re-named "Cow" thanks to my hilarious  OH). All started well, with Marty testing S's lightning reactions and Cow becoming increasingly whizzy and lacking steering. Eventually he chilled but we did very little other than out of walk/jog/trot to give him time to understand the whys and wherefores of it all, as enthusiasm and tension are not good partners cross country.:( I was a bit down-hearted about how green he was but cheered up watching Marty strut his stuff in his usual "don't tell me what to do" manner.:D

Saturday was a bling day, with Chubby and Chunky (Jupiter and Marty) going to Arena UK to do some unafflicted stressage, just Prelims, but M is no dressage fan and Jup is only a fan of freestyle , so they needed the practice. Both went surprisingly well, and the only major errors were a monster at A prompting Jup to canter down the centre line  in his first test. Marty was a bit tired but really on-side and tried so hard for me, such a lovely feeling, whereas Jup was only good because I worked his bouncy little butt off inbetween tests. Marty was 2nd with 68.75% in the first test and Jup 5th with 65.8%, then Marty was nowhere with 66.6% (I thought it was the better test tbh:confused:) and Jup was 5th again, with 68.75. Oh, and why did I not remember that grakles are a no-no at dressage? Dur. Thankfully a little girl on a grey pony had also made the same mistake and they hadn't eliminated her, so they had to let me off with it too.:)

Sunday morning I woke up with that horrid "where am I?" feeling (no smutty comments thanks, I was at home and had only had two glasses of wine the night before;)). I was in two minds whether to go hunter trialling or not but knew meardsall_millie would never let me hear the end of it if I bottled out. I did a quick bit of teaching and riding beforehand before rattling off to Brooksby in the Big Baydale Bus for the RC intermediate class, round the Intro course. My organiser/advisor, m_m:p, told me what colour numbers I was looking for and I sprinted round with various facial expressions, from  to :). Jup was on first so I was carbed up (bagel and honey) in readiness for the marathon, m_m near the finish with oxygen and a silver space blanket.;) We zig-zagged over the first couple, bounced over the bank at 3 and then had to ride for my life over the next two (person hiding behind the hedge at one and scary white beehive fence). Bless him, when he got to them he jumped really well, not batting an eyelid at the trakehner and just being really careful:rolleyes: at the coffin, but he got better as he went round and needs a few more rounds like that.

Funny photos, mainly due to my "sit down and shove with wide hands 5 strides out" technique, but also due to my voluminous breeches, an Ebay bargain that are the right size, just for someone with even more thunderous thighs than me (click right arrow for more):

Please note that neither Jup nor Cow are prone to dangly forearms, but both jumped the rolltop looking like they'd only be safe over 2ft 6in.

I got my breath back within about, ooh, 20 minutes ;) and got Cow ready. It was with some trepidation that I started warming-up as he was yee-ha-ing every time a horse on course galloped the other side of the hedge, but he settled ok eventually. The tactics were to be trotting mainly, but cantering if he felt soft in himself and was listening to me. He set off quite sweetly and ballooned the first couple then did a big  at the bank at 3, so we trotted on and popped off, strongly over 4 and the scary beehives at 5, then he just got better and better. There was lots of patting and "good boys" and he was really cute, cautious enough over the drops to not scare himself, bold over the ditches, with steering and brakes...what more could I ask for? :)

Orange juice and kettle chips for those who've made it to the end, you're hardcore, definitely. Feel free to take the mickey about my humungous breeches - trust me, after I've washed them once they should be just right.:p

It was good to actually meet you at last. I was the one grooming the black horse "with potential". :D You will be glad to know that you can still spot a good 'un as he came 2nd :p

Hopefully see you around and about and now won't feel shy about saying hello!

Baggy breeches are just a good reason to eat more chocolate! ;)
They both look fab but I hate those round roll top sausages things think they all jump those badly imho as the ground line is under the fence if you see what I mean...

Aha, Fletch, I will remember you for next time; I had a funny feeling I should know you at the time.

Chloe - I was thinking the same, about the roll top sausage thing, not the chocolate I mean -I eat more than enough as it is. I love the colour of the breeches but might have to do something with the sewing machine if my shrinking efforts fail.:(

Are you sure you are just not shrinking as a result of the Baydale Fat Farm regime? It's the boys revenge for putting them on a diet!

Jup looks even more like uncle Hec now he has lost some weight and Cal (who I thought was called Cow when you first told me about him) is looking lovely.

Great that the ditch training has paid off although Jup can obviously see trolls in there.

Sorry should have introduced BD and Fletch- Me bad!! Was a good day all round...Cow just enjoyed showing off all the way round I reckon ;) :p The Breeches look fine when you're riding... will get some "on the floor" pics for full effect I reckon... ;)

I'll give you my mother's address post them to her she is a pro at shrinking stuff!!!!

Great report - couldn't remember what you were up to yesterday but knew it must be something ;) Both real dudes, stunning Jup photos as usual, and Cal just looks very casual: the fences are really too small for him, with his SJ experience, yet he's not ready to jump any bigger XC so I guess it's just one of those stages to get through, isn't it? Glad he's chilling out, man :) Oh yes, and those breeches sound like they'd be perfect for me, bung 'em in the post and I'll send you something nice - how 'bout Joe? ;) :D

Do you think they're trying to make me shrink so I become ickle and ineffectual and they can do whatever they like?

Jup was much admired both days, so I'm thinking a second career as a show hunter (yawn:p), whadya think? ;) He has the sideways ears that Hector had throughout his whole first year eventing, slightly confused/unsure/bewildered. :D

I did look like I'd escaped from a World War II film in them. :o

Thanks TD, Jup needs to do rounds and get his brain working quicker and Cal needs to do schooling to get his to work slower...remind me again what a good idea it was to have TWO 5 year olds.

You would get lost in the breeches as they are soooo long - I'm now LOL at my mental image of you peeping out over the top of the waistband.:D How is Joe's medium trot and counter canter anyway (don't answer that if you're going to be rude)!? ;)

Oh God, I'm in big trouble:eek: as I've forgotten to include meardsall_millie's report (she has a proper job so is busy being important as we speak :p).

Bally, the Rotund Ginger One - although still slimmer than Jup and Marty - was a fabby pony in the Open and flew round, giving them all feet to spare and generally showing off his prowess to come a very respectable 4th. We all went off and had a cup of tea while he was jumping fence 7 - palisade and ditch with monsters in - as he took soooo long about it, and I reckon without that moment she'd have been spot on the optimum time. ;) I'll let her add the important stuff as we were all so busy saying appreciative cute things about him that we hardly noticed the finer detail.

LMAO at the breeches....but they do not as bad as they sound in the pictures ;-p promise!! Just boil wash them about 90 degrees should do the trick!!!

Sounds a really fun day out and the "pre school" lot looked lovely in their photos! Glad their enjoying being educated and look to be having a whole load of fun at the same time!

Well done on the stressage too.....!

Sounds like m_m had a complete blast too, you had lovely weather for it!

Sounds like a very productive weekend! 'Light' carrots for Jup and Cow for braving the frightening beehives.

Unfortunatly can't see the photos becasue my computer has decided that all graphics are viruses...grrr.

Oh no, Cow has to have full fat carrots as he's on the Weight Gain programme.;)

There are an awful lot of arse shots.....
You just need more jaffas to fill those breeches ;)

Well done, sounds like a fun packed few days.

I spent 5 hours gardening yesterday.. not as much fun. Oh and hugely pissed off that i missed Grafton HT yesterday grrrrr!!!

I have to agree with BBs, the photographer seemed fond of your derriere! Perhaps he/she had heard about these famous breeches?! Could you point me in the direction of them though as they sound the kind of style that fits me, and they are a nice colour!

I had to laugh at the dressage report, it conjured up images of you poking your bottom lip out and pointing and said small kid going "well she got to, why can't I" :D. Oh, and remind me, Marty is a chesnut one (the cleveland bay?) that's your OHs hunter that sometimes goes eventing purely for educational purposes yes? Or am I mixing them up again?

The xc photos don't put Jup's belly in the most flattering light, but he has a very cute face and I can well believe he is related to the other boys. You do realise how huge an intermediate is going to look if you keep doing lots of this most weekends?!

Maybe the photographer was pointing out that my fondness for Jaffas is not doing me any good. :o

Gardening, mmmm, lovely, nearly as much fun as poo picking... ;)

They're Kentucky Miami breeches, although look like they'd fit someone who'd too much time in Kentucky Fried Chicken, so they'd definitely drown you too!

I was offering to go HC until one of the stewards pointed out that the (11yo cute:)) kid had had one on and no-one had said anything. Marty is the gorgeously huge mahogany bay that did some novices last year; you're thinking of big ginger Arthur.

I was looking forward to seeing the photos until I saw a) how teeny the fences look, and b) how teeny I look on Jup. However when you're aboard the good ship HH everything looks that height. ;)

Baggy breeches are "in" in North America so you'd look right at home in the hunter ring. Come to think of it, we also like our working hunters xxxxxxxl so Jup would fit right in, too. ;)

Glad the boys behaved and I'm sure they'll get their bio-rhythms on the same cycle soon enough. :D

Both boys look great and sounds like some very good dressage results there :)

I was thinking that Jup is looking alot slimmer then those first SJ pics you put up of him jumping at home.

Im still missing some HH updates though, we miss seeing his pics. How is his greatness?!
Saw Hec at nurstead yesterday as he came through our fence, he really is a credit to you as are all your boys, his face looked so sweet :)

You've had a busy few days but it sounds like everyone had fun and well done on the dressage - a rosette is a rosette is a rosette wherever it comes from. I like the picture you conjured up (for me as well) of trying not to cry because 'she was allowed a grackle - it's not fair' and then you had to go and spoil it by telling us the steward sorted it :D

Well done hun, at least you can get into your jods, despite 2 coat hangers my zip barely manages past half way, a situation not helped by our recent trip to eurodisney!!!!

I did notice baggy breeches (only cus I'm jealous, nothing is ever baggy on me!) No problem all you need is a few more of our sausage cobs to build you up
