Just reading Flint's post in SB got me wondering!! (Doen't take much!)
OK so said person that had Flint & selling him said she had, had him for 6 yrs but wasn't even 6mnths.

My question is, on the Passports does it not say the date of transactions with previous owners??
So first owner would be breeder from day one to lets say 3yr old.
So lets say foal born 1/2/02 They would have 1/2/02 -10/4/05 on the passport
Then someone els bought the horse started it & had it for 4 years competing & what not then sold on to start another youngster.
So next to their name would be 10/4/05-20/6/09.

Least this way you know how long the horse was with the individual people & that it's not on a yard with a revolving door or have an idea if it has been through lots of peeps in short spaces of time??

Well done if you can understand what I have written! & forgive me if this does already happen with passports!
But would it not make more sence for them to carry the length of time they were with each "owner"???

yes it does i just made a massive mistake in buying a 3 year old i got told by the owner she had it 2 1/2 years i checkd the passport was his with his markings ect but didnt check the date the owner got him, turned out she had him a mth abused him to the point hes now blind and sold him on, i felt sorry for him as was wild and had bad hoofs ect so i bought him, i have now learnd to check the date th owner gets the horse!

Sorry to hear that about your 3yr old.
Thanks for clearing it up fo me that it is on there.
Mind you does anyone ask to look at the passport when looking at a horse & not just when they are handing the money over for it??

I totally agree that this would be a good idea. However, when i sold my mare it did state on the passport that id only owned her for a month. I had actually had her for over a year but, because id had her on loan for about 9 months of this and then it had taken me a while (i know its bad) to sort out her passport. So depending on peoples circumstances the dates dont truely reflect how long they have actually had the horse, as in my case!

Ah yes! Well I was also thinking of the horses taken to market without one & it being issued there & then!! So not much help! I was actually thinking about loans too as to how it would work!!

When on loan the horse still technically belongs to the person who has registered the passport, the loaner would not be shown at all.
Passports should also be updated within 30 days of sale so should show a close gude to ownership. Of course, that depends on the owner doing it
