caked on dry mud

What are your methods of getting rid of really dry caked on mud off your horses hooves?

I hose it off.

Scrape it off with a hoof pick xx

Stiff brush, like a water bucket brush or even a dandy brush, depending on how caked we are talking!

I tend to wash off when wet, but if it hasnt been for what ever reason i put effol hoof oil on, leave on for a bit then scrap off or brush off. Can be usefull if you dont want to wash or its to cold to wash off.

Bit of both; hoof pick with a brush is helpful. My boy had very muddy legs the other day and I felt guilty not having time to clean him up properly before lesson, but an hour in the arena (shredded rubber surface) and he was spotless
