Calling all Showing Divas! The season is calling our name...

@southerncomfort I use alva mane and tail conditioner on my ponies. I have one who's mane is really fine but a lot of it (think thelwell) and it ringlets/dreadlock's as soon as it's damp. I've used the alva dazzle on his mane with some success.

They are no longer an MLM business so your just buying at retail price these days.

Thanks! I'll have a look at that one too. 🙂

My 8yo daughter and I are going to give lead rein M&M classes a go for the first time. We’ll try out at many local shows as possible and see where that gets us. One of the. Gives STARS points so you never know but given we’ve never done it before we have a lot to learn!!
We had a showing clinic recently and got some pointers and even just my running alongside the pony needs significant improvement which I didn’t think was going to be as hard as it was haha!
Good luck everyone!

This is very exciting!! The lead rein classes are definitely an art - it's fascinating to watch

The season is here and begun! Had my coloured mare out inhand locally a couple weeks back - pleased with weight and condition for this time of year. Hoping to take her to the Highland for the inhand coloureds. In process of getting my confidence back under saddle so will chip away quietly and see what ridden outings happen for us.
Hoping my big coloured gelding can get back out after a year out due to ems and lami 🤞

I'm only going to Wiltshire as a groom now for a friend. i moved yards last weekend and the colt has dropped off with a bit of stress :( so his first show will now be NPS Spring Festival for the HP inhand final

I'm not going to Wiltshire show either, it feels a little early in the season for grass kept ponies.

I'm at a fun show next weekend with the youngest one so will miss the NPS show at chard. Hoping to get to the NPS show later in the year at Moreton Equestrian centre.

My lad is heading out to his first show this weekend (Wiltshire Show) with his fab sharer. I am watching from the sidelines as I'm pregnant so off games, and playing groom (which I have never done before - quite literally all hints and tips welcomed, even down to what to wear, which is a bit tricky at the moment as 90% of my clothes don't fit). I haven't even been to a larger show before even as a spectator so I have no idea what to expect!

In your situation (and never wanting to spend any money!) I'd go with dark smart and discreet for groom wear. As long as you look tidy you'll be fine.

Good luck to you all and I hope you have a lovely time.

Thank you - this is the dilemma, I don't really want to fork out too much money on maternity clothes I am unlikely to wear again! Unfortunately all of my current maternity trousers are either thick black leggings or blue denim jeans. I think I will go for leggings and wear my country boots and hopefully they will pass off as jods. I have a nice fedora and a tweed cape (again, jackets not fitting at the moment!). Hopefully it'll be fine!

Sounds fine to me.

Sounds very smart. Take a small grooming kit in to the ring with you so brush and sponge so as to wipe the horse once the saddle has been taken off for the conformation phase. You may not get time to do anything if there are two judges though. If your rider needs steps to get back on, either have those with you or borrow off someone else. Someone in the line up will always offer help. If the class is outdoors and he is clipped have a little sheet/rug to throw over his quarters whilst standing in line. If there aren't many in the class you probably won't need to do that or have time to tart him for the conformation phase but if a big class it can help them not get cold. Basically enjoy and wish I was there!

Thank you so much, this is so helpful! I believe there are seven in the class and no riding judge (LIHS class). Rider will definitely need steps but we have some to hand (she knows what she is doing thankfully, just me that doesn't have a clue!). Just want to make sure I am a help not a hinderance 😅 I am thoroughly enjoying my role as sideline cheerleader at the moment and I am proud as punch of the two of them!
