Calling all Showing Divas! The season is calling our name...

@southerncomfort I use alva mane and tail conditioner on my ponies. I have one who's mane is really fine but a lot of it (think thelwell) and it ringlets/dreadlock's as soon as it's damp. I've used the alva dazzle on his mane with some success.

They are no longer an MLM business so your just buying at retail price these days.

Thanks! I'll have a look at that one too. 🙂

My 8yo daughter and I are going to give lead rein M&M classes a go for the first time. We’ll try out at many local shows as possible and see where that gets us. One of the. Gives STARS points so you never know but given we’ve never done it before we have a lot to learn!!
We had a showing clinic recently and got some pointers and even just my running alongside the pony needs significant improvement which I didn’t think was going to be as hard as it was haha!
Good luck everyone!

This is very exciting!! The lead rein classes are definitely an art - it's fascinating to watch

The season is here and begun! Had my coloured mare out inhand locally a couple weeks back - pleased with weight and condition for this time of year. Hoping to take her to the Highland for the inhand coloureds. In process of getting my confidence back under saddle so will chip away quietly and see what ridden outings happen for us.
Hoping my big coloured gelding can get back out after a year out due to ems and lami 🤞

I'm only going to Wiltshire as a groom now for a friend. i moved yards last weekend and the colt has dropped off with a bit of stress :( so his first show will now be NPS Spring Festival for the HP inhand final

I'm not going to Wiltshire show either, it feels a little early in the season for grass kept ponies.

I'm at a fun show next weekend with the youngest one so will miss the NPS show at chard. Hoping to get to the NPS show later in the year at Moreton Equestrian centre.

My lad is heading out to his first show this weekend (Wiltshire Show) with his fab sharer. I am watching from the sidelines as I'm pregnant so off games, and playing groom (which I have never done before - quite literally all hints and tips welcomed, even down to what to wear, which is a bit tricky at the moment as 90% of my clothes don't fit). I haven't even been to a larger show before even as a spectator so I have no idea what to expect!

In your situation (and never wanting to spend any money!) I'd go with dark smart and discreet for groom wear. As long as you look tidy you'll be fine.

Good luck to you all and I hope you have a lovely time.

Thank you - this is the dilemma, I don't really want to fork out too much money on maternity clothes I am unlikely to wear again! Unfortunately all of my current maternity trousers are either thick black leggings or blue denim jeans. I think I will go for leggings and wear my country boots and hopefully they will pass off as jods. I have a nice fedora and a tweed cape (again, jackets not fitting at the moment!). Hopefully it'll be fine!

Sounds fine to me.

Sounds very smart. Take a small grooming kit in to the ring with you so brush and sponge so as to wipe the horse once the saddle has been taken off for the conformation phase. You may not get time to do anything if there are two judges though. If your rider needs steps to get back on, either have those with you or borrow off someone else. Someone in the line up will always offer help. If the class is outdoors and he is clipped have a little sheet/rug to throw over his quarters whilst standing in line. If there aren't many in the class you probably won't need to do that or have time to tart him for the conformation phase but if a big class it can help them not get cold. Basically enjoy and wish I was there!

Thank you so much, this is so helpful! I believe there are seven in the class and no riding judge (LIHS class). Rider will definitely need steps but we have some to hand (she knows what she is doing thankfully, just me that doesn't have a clue!). Just want to make sure I am a help not a hinderance 😅 I am thoroughly enjoying my role as sideline cheerleader at the moment and I am proud as punch of the two of them!

We were there Sunday, he did two classes - 5th in his first class (which truly was his first class ever, judge was terribly complimentary about him, said he simply needs more trips out to get used to it all, which is an entirely fair observation!), and he won his second class 🥰 the biggest win of the day was how well he behaved and took it all in his stride, though. He isn’t naturally the most confident of horses and this was a big ask of him really, he’s had a quiet life! But he behaved impeccably all day. Perfect in the warm up and the ring, and more than happy to stand on the lorry between classes. I’m just so thrilled with him, very proud mum! And I didn’t have to groom in the end, one of the girls who came with us was keen to have a go at it and she did a brilliant job!

I didn't think there was much chance of going showing this season but last night my sister announced she's going to enter her Connie into the in hand at the Highland! It's many moons since I showed there with my Fell but it's only about 25 minutes away and a reasonably early class.
He had done plenty of shows before he arrived here so is a dab hand!

Sadly our first in hand outing for Chief (just local New Forest Pony Enthusiasts Club) is the same day we take him up to start his harness training 🙈 However he will be having a makeover/bath before he goes as I want him to look as smart as possible. His summer coat is coming on nicely, looking very pink💕but with those chestnut knees and hocks to round off the picture.

Was going to take Reg to our local area NPS spring show Monday, but opted for a local fun show instead as it was closer and a lot cheaper.

Only did one class as all other were full we could have done. But nice chilled out day. Arrived at 10.15 class started 11.20 back on the lorry for 12.30 and home before 1pm.

And we brought home a red one!!

Sounds like an ideal day!!

I finally opted to join VHS rather than SSADL (it was cheaper and waaaaay more shows with classes i can do down South) and Alfie's first VHS classes are on the 18th at HOPE show!

Where is HOPE show?

Taking over slightly....it is at Moreton Morrell college. Have done a few of their shows - they also use a place near Rugby (not Onley, but a grass show ground). Lovely rosettes, normally very relaxed and organisers are lovely too. They have a facebook page which is Horse Owners and Pony Exhibitors.

I've just found a schedule - yes at Moreton Morrell college.

We had our novice ISH out on Good Friday to a local BSPS area WH Festival. Just did a couple of WHP stakes classes and he rolled an unlucky pole in each and just managed to squeeze into the placings,. but we're over the moon with how he handled the occasion as he can be a bit stressy and is green as grass when it comes to competing.

Very proud of how my daughter is managing him as she's really little more than a novice herself having come to riding late and her previous equine partners being the best and steadiest coloured cob a girl could wish for then an absolute Unicorn of a Schoolmistress Connie.

Her new horse came unseen from Ireland and I was far from certain he was the right buy. The (very well respected) Irish dealer I bought him from convinced me to buy him - when I told him my daughter was short on experience and not what I would call a 'Rider' his response was 'sure she'll never be a rider if she stays on her wee pony' 😂

He told me I wouldn't regret buying this horse and so far he's been right 😁
