Calling all you multiple horse owners.........

Mine share

Mine share a home grooming kit, with dandy brushes, hoof picks, curry combs, mane combs, tail brush etc in it. They do have their own show kits, an Oster set each with a wooden backed, goat hair body brush - the reason they don't share show brushes is because one is dark bay and one is grey.

No. Mine share everything including field, rugs, grooming kits and stables. Never had a problem (touch wood).

hehe, i had this discussion with another mutiple horse owner last week!
The lady i was talking to has seperate, i on the other hand make them share! after all, they are all turned out together! i tend to use seperate ones for the grey though

My two have their own, only because i'm too lazy to walk across the yard from one stable to the other everytime i forget a hoofpick or brush.
They both have everything thing they need of their own as differant sizes, sex and colour.

the ones at home share a kit. the ones on working livery share with about 15 others. along with sharing fields, rugs, barns, little girls with pigtails........

Mine have a grooming kit they share (they also have their own grooming kits too but I really use these) They can't share much else due to the difference in size.

now the big ones are all similar colours they have home kit and show kit, the minis have their own kits (each) in lovely PINK and PURPLE boxes!! (courtesy of daughter!!).

I have two seperate grooming kits, but as there are both grey I use either of them, but rugs are not shared as they are different sizes

My two have separate kits, which are labelled. I only share the hoofpicks between them. The buckets are shared though for cleaning although they each have their own sponges with their initials cut out with e for eyes, n for nose and b for bum. I use one bucket for eyes and nose and the other for bums, and they each have a sponge for sheath cleaning when I just use warm water and baby oil. But as the sponges tend to get mucky and sticky I usually throw them away as I don't clean the bits that often ( few times a year with water and a bit more often if I just squirt with baby oil).
My reason for having different kits was because the cob was originally for my daughter and I wanted her to have her own kit to use, also one is bay the other is piebald ( mostly white) so didn't want different coloured hairs being put onto each other in between grooms.
I wash my brushes and combs regularly though, more so in summer and less in winter as it is a pain drying out the brushes as some are goat hair and natural ones so I dry them naturally.
To be honest though I don't have a problem with brushes being shared between horses owned by the same owner so long as the brushes get cleaned periodically and non sharing takes place if any horses develop any skin or medical conditions that could be transmitted between horses.
I would not lend out brushes to people because I think everyone has their own idea of clean and common sense when it comes to grooming horses and looking after kits and so I wouldn't like to think my horses caught something from another horse via a grooming kit because of others.
Mine cannot share rugs, headcollars etc as they are both very different in size. I can understand people sharing them though between their own horses and if mine were of the same size then I would as it would make economical sense.
But whatever people decide to do with their horses when it comes to stuff like that is up to them, it is personal choice.
I only choose not to share for the reasons listed above, but in different circumstances then yes my horses would share more as they are both very healthy boys.

We have a selection of brushes, which get used on whichever horse is being brushed. Three horses, share brushes and a halter, no two fit the same size rug, so all different, all riding tack different, seperate buckets, different colours, so that the right feed goes in the right stable.

Another Question.

Everybody who has seperate kits is it for health reasons and if so do you wash you hands between handling each horse?

when i had a bay and a grey they had differnet kits because i absolutely hate it when grooming my bay these white hairs would suddenly appear, but as i have 2 bays they share. if one of the get something i disinfect the brushs and buy cheapo made do ones for the poorly one which i just chuck once its over (though that doesn't happen very often
