Hey all,
Long story so bear with me J
Last night I went out for a hack on the new pony, and OH was on foot (as he likes to walk with us). Anyway we were on our way home and a bike came shooting up behind us which none of us hear until he was right by ponies flank, to which pony jumped sideways. Rider apologised for scaring us and went on his merry way, and us on ours
A bit further down the track, a pheasant was lurking in the woods behind the fence separating it from the bridal path honestly this bird had clogs on! Pony stopped to have a look (which is fine by me because usually if he has a look he decided it isnt scary and then next time hes fine with it) but because the bird was hidden he was getting a little worked up, turning into a ball and growing to about 17hh lol In the meantime I try to make him go forward but he was rooted to the floor, when the other half decides to start yelling at me to make him move forwards when I can see whats going to happen OH is going to get squashed because he is stood in ponies way and pony is going to do a little jump OH cannot see this, so im getting more and more nervous so I decided to dismount got off and lead pony to have a look at the pheasant, which he decided was not so scary and we walked back to the yard I was shaking by this point and the OH kept telling me to get back on but I was a wreck with two scary things happening
I must point out this pony is a dream to ride and I know scary things will happen but my confidence isnt that great (but growing great guns cos of J) and having to keep OH from harm and focus on the pony is so tough as he isnt horsey and he does things that one day will get him kicked or bitten
I suppose my question is, would you have gotten off? Or would you have been a shaking leaf in the saddle? I didnt want him to take my nerves on because hes only just starting his hacking career and I want things to be as positive as possible to make him into a really confident pony
Cookies and coffee to all who got this far J
