Have tried Naf Magic but haven't really noticed much difference.

Need something for my 6 year old ISH who is nappy, sharp and explosive.

I am losing the will to live

Magnesium oxide, fairly inexpensive to buy, most calmers contain magnesium, it's only a mineral, a lot of grass is deficient in it so worth a try! And of course if haven't already cut all molasses/sugar out inc carrots etc!

magic calmer

I did try neat magnesium after a lot of members said to use it as cheap. With my boy it was a waste of money did nothing for him so gave the rest away.

We tried Magic on the Crossdrum Spurs mare, did naf all (get the joke eh?) then TopSpec Calmer, didn't seem to do much either.. so at the minute she's not getting anything.

She is a bit of a nightmare at the moment, I suspect it's something to do with the time of year- she was very difficult this time last year (tried a course of regumate, how significant the effects were is hard for me to judge as I wasn't really riding her at the time). Considering agnus castus now- do you think its mareish behaviour to the extreme or is she just a general sharp rat bag?

Science suppliments ProCalm. Fantastic stuff. Comes in a syringe and powder form. Very well researched product.

Okay, I'm going to sound completely barmy now BUT here goes :)

I've been using chamomile tea for a couple if days with mine. He was soo highly strung, thought I was going to stab him with carrots, spooky all the time and a quivering wreck on rides. Went to buy some magnesium from my feed place, but they only had stuff for 30 odd £.

Have to say, since giving him his herbal tea, I've noticed a masooove difference in him - he's soo chilled. However on research I think you can only use for a couple of months so will look at mag ox off eBay (quick question to those on it - how much do you give?)

Ditto this, but it will only be effective if horse is deficient in magnesium to begin with. Cheap enough to try for elimination purposes if nothing else, on about a teaspoonful a day for 2 weeks, if there is no improvement that wasn't the problem. I have heard that some horses go loopy on Alfalfa, some on haylage, have you changed anything in his feed?

I have the 99.7% heavy sort, It's 2 grams per 100kg body weight, I give 8 grams which is 1 tbs, I just mix it in with her balancer and she eats it no probs.

I have used Net Tex Nice and easy before which worked well, but currently trying Hilton Herbs calm and collected gold. Which is a herbal calmer. I haven't ridden the horse yet but she is a lot calmer on the ground.

Have you tried cutting sugar out of his diet (as far as poss?). My boy doesn't do well with it. Put him on Allen & page calm and condition with unmolassed hifi. Made a huge difference.

Thanks fot the suggestions so far, will look into them further tomorrow.

She is a good doer so only has hay and a scoop of hifi molasses free split between two feeds, I think she is just being a cow bag!
