Thought i'd share some photos. After a crap 6 months its lovely to be smiling about something!
We came back from camp yesterday. I was so nervous prior to going. It was amazing, the food at Stockland Lovell was just gorgeous and we had such fun. The lessons were excellent and instructors really knowledgeable. It was so nice having so much 1-1 time with your horse. Highly recommended!
Alfie is my little 14.1 cob whos just just turned 10, he was diagnosed with neck arthritis in 1 vertebra in December. He had it medicated and came back into work, he has been going well but I said I wouldn't push him and only do what he was capable of.
I was supposed to take my other horse to camp who unfortunately done his suspensory in January, so decided to take Alfie if he had the 'go ahead'. Both vets said he was more than able to do the same activities as before, camp should be no issue and the physio was happy with him prior to camp, good muscle tone, felt good etc.
He was the only pony at camp! I didn't do more than he was capable of and he got regular breaks. He didn't sweat once, seem stiff or struggle in any way. I didn't 'make' him do anything, cross country has always been his 'thing' but since having his neck medicated he felt better than ever - pulling me into some meaty fences. We even jumped a log, bounce, meaty drop into water and then a skinny brush coming out of the water which was a bit of a heart racer because I dropped my reins, couldn't see with water in my eyes and he still locked onto the skinny brush clearing it lovely.
I gave him regular walks for grass everyday so he didn't just stay in the stable, he seemed to really enjoy himself and loaded and traveled the 90 minutes perfectly (amazing for him, use to be a shocking traveller and loader)
One lady even offered to buy him (he'll never be for sale!) and the instructor said what a lovely partnership we have, his neck hasn't limited him at all and he could of been a FEI pony.
Here are some pictures of the cross country over the weekend. These were all purchased, the bottom one was a large print so awaiting that to be posted which is why it has a copyright on it.
Best £500 I ever spent on a little unknown, unbacked Heinz 57 and to think the gypsies said he was impossible to train all those years ago! He'll have a good earned few days off now in the field.
Despite all hes been through, he still continues to try his best.. this gelding is definitely my pony of a life time!
