Does anyone know anywhere good to advertise a horse for sale? I've spent loads advertising and had nothing but time wasters, tried h+h, horse deals, horse quest and more! But had no joy, my horse is now going to have to live out from sat and as a dutch warmblood this really isn't ideal, getting absolutely desperate. Only selling him cos I've had a baby and can't afford to keep him anymore. Really need ideas.

OK. Have you been to a dealer to see how much they'd give you?
Is he on livery, or do you have him at home?
If you are hanging on for a certain amount but paying livery/field rent, selling him to a dealer now could offset this amount .... if you get what I mean.
ie. Lets say you want £1000 for him, your livery is £200 a month (for ease of working it out). Dealer offers you £500. You could still have him in 3 months and you would be worse off than if you sold him to the dealer.

Only you know how desperate you are to get rid.

I can't suggest anymore than where you've advertised him. If he hasn't sold, re-advertise at a reduced price.

Why hasn't he sold? No viewings, or viewings and no more?

OK, so let's break this down.

Forget what he looks like - he is a gelding, he cannot be used for breeding.

It sounds as though he has only ever done 1 prelim test - was that unaff or aff?

Big jump - but has he ever been competed?

Well to me he basically hasent many miles on the clock, and he is very big which can be off putting... If he is talented he needs to have done alot more than british novice, as this is only 3ft. I think you have two choices send him to a pro to produce, or drop your price, you also dont state what he is like to hack out and traffic etc.

he's been jumping 1.40-1.50 at home. I have no interest in competing which is why he hasn't done much and has been wasted with me. the talent is there and the mileage is low it's not that he can't do it it's that i don't want to!!!!

He's up for £7000 inc new albion dressage saddle and all his tack and rugs without all this i would take £6000. He might be 17.1 but my friend who is only 5'5" was the one that did the dressage on him so he doesn't exactly ride big and the owner of my yard schools him and she's only small.

Your advert says £7k without tack etc though..........

It depends on how badly you want to get rid of him..........there isnt much movement in the horse market atm, and for £7k people can get proven horses..........

If you need to get rid of him you will have to lower his price.....or see if you can get someone to ride him at some comps to improve his record.

Lots of people will be put off by his size I'm afraid, even if you say he rides small. Does he hack?

If I were you I would find someone to BSJA him for you, with a big 'for sale' note over the tannoy. Get him out at the bigger classes, get him seen & improve his record then he will sell.
Alternatively, as Daisychain said, get him to a dealer/producer. OR knock some money off.

Just to clarify, i sold my pre novice eventer, (one in siggy) safe allrounder well placed dressage, placed pre novice always tops dressage for £6k. He was 9yo bombproof with proven comp record and 16.2hh, my phone was red hot. In comparrison, you horse has done very little, and your word alone is unlikely to sell him, sorry..

If I've read that right...sorry but 7K for something that's only done Prelim dressage?! No chance!

IMHO it doesn't matter what he's done at home, I would want to see a competition record or to know it's hunted with a certain pack (so I could talk to the Sec about him if I wanted, to get their opinion) etc. Sorry but I really think he's too expensive for a big horse that hasn't done anything for a while.

What sort of person do you want to aim him at? I would hazard a guess that most competitive people wouldnt' look at him because he's expensive for something with no competition record, and your average rider would look at the ad and think he's far too much horse for them....

FAR too expensive, sorry. I am in the market for a big competition horse and I have £7k and more to spend, but I wouldn't look at your horse for his price, however good looking he is

£5k, yes, £7k, not a chance, sorry, I know that isn't what you want to hear.
