Will tell you after tonight - I suspect I can though - not sure about touch the toes in trot which they used to make us do.....

Can't vault on from the back anymore either (or the side for that matter

)

no chance! to arthritic

i was watching the riding horse class at the local show on Sun, and the judge had them dismounting and then mounting from the ground on the wrong side! easier said than done- was entertaining to watch

I only learn't about threading the needle last some (and I'm 23) from a really good friend who uses my pony to teach on sometimes, I was watching a lesson and she had these 6 years olds doing it. - Obviously I had to have a go!

I can!! (smug). I can do full scissors & thread the needle too

b probably wondered what the hell I was up to!

BTW I'm 32, if were comparing age to stifffness.

I can still do around the world not tried the scissors for years so think ill give that a shot tonight. I used to be able to do full so end up facing the back of the saddle and vice versa!

Also i can only vault on ponies from the ground. I wouldnt try it with Jed i think he'd have something to say about it hehe.

Yes! My poor ponies are subjected to round the world, full scissors and thread the needle every so often!

Can do round the world, half scissors and thread the needle... not too sure about full scissors but never did that as a child either (I was deprived

LOL)... the other instructor at my yard is in her mid-30s and can definitely do full scissors cos I caught her 'demonstrating' to the children the other day up on our big Cob. She was pretty embarassed when she saw me tho

No idea but I’m going to give it a go tomorrow, had forgotten all about round the world!
grin.gif
If I die then I will blame you!
Don’t think I’ll be doing scissors though, couldn’t do it when I was 10 so no chance now!

Explain to us (me) poor people who didn't go to riding schools or pony club what are scissors and threading the needle?
smile.gif

Yes and scissors...

do you also get extra brownie points for still being able to touch your toes while trotting round ....like at riding school!!!

the first time i did round the world aged 6 i broke my arm by falling out the side door backwards (if that makes sense). I can still do scissors but only when im in a silly mood .

Yes, they still make us do it at the Riding School as part of the Christmas games, I'm not as quick as I used to be though! I never quite mastered full scissors though, I could do it so I was backwards but couldn't do it the other way so would get stuck!

For those not in the know, thread the needle you leave one foot in the stirrup, swing the other leg over the front of the saddle and 'thread' it between your stirrup-ed leg and the saddle, then sort of twist yourself round and swing your free leg back over the back of the saddle (I think that's right, its a lot easier to do it than to write it down!)

Half scissors (to the left for an example), you swing your right leg over the front of the saddle so you're sat sideways (no stirrups at all this time) then put your left hand on the front of the saddle and right hand on the back, then push yourself up on your arms and swing your right leg back over the saddle behind you.

Full scissors you sort of lean forwards and swing our legs behind you, crossing them in the air and twisting your body round so you're sat backwards. Easier said than done!

I think I've got them all right, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong!

I'm ahem 43 and I can do round the world, scissors and half-scissors. Have never tried thread the needle and not planning to! My 6 year old son can do r-the-w in under 4 seconds! I take a little longer ...........

LOL God that gave me a blast from the past memory.

Only a few weeks ago we had the touching toes whilst in trot as our lesson objective - and also in canter. I nearly fell off

I could do round the world and half scissors but never knew about the others.
