Hi I'm contemplating entering a British novice Class with my new mare at a local agricultural show.
Neither of us are a member of bsja yet.
Can I do so on a ticket? Is that how a "ticket" works? Will be our first time joining so no idea how it works.
Any help is appreciated :)

Thanks for reply. :) Not fussed about the prize money etc but would like to know where we were placed (if we do) Do they still do placings/rosettes etc? X

Sorry to hi-jack thread OP but this is something I've been contemplating too.

I used to jump my old boy BN but never really had a good time of it as, although he'd quite happily and keenly jump 1m courses at home when I got him to a show he'd go like a donkey and we'd usually be eliminated before we got half way around the course!! Therefore my confidence took a real battering. (bear in mind even my very confident friend who was and still is a very competent, determined and strong rider could barely get him to canter forward in the ring).

My current boy has restored so much of the confidence I'd lost back then and to me, jumping around a BN is something I'd like to try just for my own satisfaction once or twice but as I don't want to affiliate a couple of times on a ticket would be ideal. I'm not even too concerned about placings, just to know I could get round without being eliminated and even maybe get a couple of double clears would be great for me :)

Good luck when you do give it a go :)

Thanks so much :) definitely gonna a give it a go! Hoping to join bsja in January then I get 12 months out of it (if that's even how it works)
What's the worst that can happen hey?
Makes you feel any better the mare I ride is the same. Schooled round a 1.20 course this morning didn't knock a pole. Yet struggled to jump a 85 course on Wednesday night with 12 faults.
Bloody horses! Haha :) x

Yes I used to every few weeks, the centre I went to I would pay about £6 for the ticket then the class entry and go in, I wasn't eligible for prizes though.

Yes, and often there are a few free tickets at the beginning of the day if you are competing early on.

Tickets are £3 up here, like has been said, you can't be placed or win prizes, but well worth it in my opinion :)

Yes you can. A day ticket is a day membership for horse and rider and usually £6, although can be free at some places. No prize money but you may get a rosette, not sure about that bit tho. Go for it, sounds like you are more than ready for it.

Hi delbino7 yes you can jump on a ticket. Also, if you decide to join BS your membership will run for 6 month or 12 months from whenever you join - ie a rolling membership system not 1 Jan to 31 Dec. Good luck!

Thanks for all this info everyone it's really helping! Definately going to join!
While I'm here someone may be able to help.
I will obviously join as a member.
The horse will need to be registered with bsja I presume?
The horse isn't mine I ride for someone else will the owner need to join too as a non riding member?
Thankyou to anyone who will know in advance! :)

Bloody horses indeed LOL.

Luckily my current chap actually goes up a few gears when we go to a show, he loves competing but I want to get my own confidence up by doing some unaffiliated 90cms first as I won't be putting myself under as much pressure than if it was an affiliated class. We're confidently jumping 80cms courses now so almost there :)
