Horses do not have "duvet days" They either stay in or go out.

Nor do they wear "pyjamas" - The term is a stable rug.

Is it only me who dislikes these silly terms? ;)

Mine wear 'jamas. And they have cagoules :P And stirrups are pedals. And it's not feeds it's "the dinners". Who needs to be constrained by boring old proper terminology!

Occasionally I refer to her stable rug as her pajamas, so in not completely innocent but it does grate slightly when people refer to me as my horses 'mum'. Even her owner does it and I'm at the point where I'm going to start correcting people before I catch it myself. I did not give birth to the animal and I am not its mum.

Fora are trivial things. Lets face it we all managed without them for years and if were honest, most of us could manage without them and find better advice in the real world.
The real world isn't half as entertaining though. Especially when you're sat in MacDonalds at 8am trying to fill the gap between your train arriving and time to go into work!

It's not trying to humanise horses either. It is using 'human associated terminology' when talking about horses. Attempting to humanise a horse would be feeding it an inappropriate diet, installing a tv in its stable and trying to get it to walk on two legs (when it isn't on its couch watching jeremy kyle) :)

Oh, it's just a bit of fun! It doesn't matter.

I call him a pony, he's clearly a horse.
I tell him I'm going to put his "booties" on, when putting on his brushing boots.
I ask him if he wants to go "night-nights" when putting in him the field/pen.

I say all manner of stupid things to him, but he's my horse (not got tired of that yet haha!) and I'll say what I like :D

I think it's just how some people are. I have full on conversations with my horse and he's obviously not going to reply but I like to keep him up to date!! haha x

I don't say pyjamas or anything like that, but I do talk to him alot.

I'm probably worse in the way that I won't throw out old teddies etc in case they have feelings!!

My mare has a bright red under rug...... We call them her naughty red nickers! Once the vet came to give her a jab. Lifted her rug over her bottom. N I went to my mare" ohh did he see your red nickers?" The vets face went as red as the rug :p lol

It's not a duvet day...it's an indoor play day :)

Does it really matter what people say or call items for their horse...we know we aren't biologically their mum (well I hope not!!) but what's the harm, I'm also my dogs mum and he has a daddy dog...doesn't make us bad people!

Stable rugs are jimjams, an apple is a snack and the indoor school is called the sand pit...so far I have made it through life without murdering anyone, kicking puppies and pushing over old people...see they are just words, no harm done!

:)

Mine wear 'jamas' :D

But as for duvet days.. I have to say I do dislike that! have a rainy day and brace yourselves for the duvet day statuses all over facebook ;) Especially as I was with someone while their horses had a 'duvet day' ... one was box walking and the other weaving!

Sure I use many other terms that could annoy some people but I can't remember them :p

I don't go in for the pyjamas, duvet days or those type of phrases, but it doesn't bother me if other people do. Unless they are also talking in a silly mummy voice loud enough that I have no choice but to listen to it. And it used to annoy me when daughter was tiny & people would confuse her by using incorrect words. Eg your pony has a pretty headband on, when they really meant brow band, not useful when she was just getting her head around 'headpiece' & 'browband'.

Does it really matter? How can such a trivial thing cause you enough bother to post it on a forum! :)

Exactly.

And for everyone's information my horses actually wear 'duggles' not rugs.

I've also referred to my male horses as 'sexy' too. Shoot me now!

As long as no one is telling you to call your horse rug pyjamas I would chill.
Personally I don't don't think horses or humans should ever have duvet days but we have lots of joke words for things does it matter not one jot.
The grooms call me evil mummy (I hope it's ironic ), the lorry is the taxi the trailer the caravan the school is the my play pen I could go on .

I'm very traditional and it wouldn't occur to me to say 'duvet day' but than I never have one myself either.
They all have silly nick names - Mr Stinky, Mr Floofy and Fat Friend, the dog is called Snoogle Flumpet and the horses have jim jams on at night. Oops!
And I don't throw old teddies away either!!

Oh I think we all fall into the renaming. I refer to my horses as my ponies. Thought both are 16.3., I do say I am putting them to bed, (believe the rather lovely old phrase was setting fair for the night!) and do say I am my animals mum... bit of a dodgy argument about the biological case though.. do I need to keep saying adoptive?!

And actually, heres one I can never feel happy with...once you are past a certain age (i.e no longer a teenager) how do you describe your boyfriend? that sounds so twee when you are older, I used to say partner but that infers I was in a gay relationship (no issue but made me laugh when the assumption was that because I used the word partner, I was gay) , OH? sounds married.. I did get my ex to refer to me as his better half. That was of course, completely true!

Been telling people that for ages! Nicely put BB. :)

A daily dilema for me:)

Can't see why it annoys personally but I am one of those that use the word 'Pj's' and yes my mare wears her jimjams when i am putting her stable rug on, she has in days too.

I refer to her bandages as leg warmers too, can't personally see what harm it is causing to anyone else really and yes I am her mummy.

Theres more to life than worrying what people call things but if thats what matters to you then so be it.

Seems to me it's just a bit of fun. :)

As long as horses are well cared for, who cares? Honestly, life's too short.

I must be the world's worst then!

My girl wear pyjamas, has sweeties in her bally (decahedron ball), has her feet done by the tootie man, goes out in the field with her friendies, has din dins and brekkie, and she also responds to the instruction 'toot-toot' to get her to pick her feet up!:eek:

Ahh, brilliant!

Reg gets to wear his wellies when it's very wet... They're waterproof turnout chaps. But wellies it much funnier :D

Exactly.

Yep, I've called Bailey "sexy" before!! Glad it isn't just me...

PMSL :D

I don't really see the need to get irritated or worked up over it - just leave people to their own. As long as the horse is well cared for and healthy it shouldn't really concern anyone else :)

My mum refers to Bailey's rugs as jackets - "Has Bailey got his big jacket on today? It feels quite cold!"

When Bailey has got bedding in his feet prior to picking out, I say he has to take his slippers off :D I also say it to others on the yard and people know what I mean and then remember to pick their horses feet out!

Mine just wear big fur coats that happen to be their own. :D I do think using these terms can blur the edges of humanizing though.
