Can i put? **help please**

i was worried it wouldnt be warm enough and was panicking the new rug wont be here in time.....im flapping in a mixture of excitement and feeling sick with nerves, Shes 7 and 15.3 and by far will be the most "competion" type horse i will ever have had. ive always had like 14hh welshs/nf etc.....

Congratulations on your new horse! And of course you can!! My 22 year old thoroughbred is fully clipped and is out in a m/w and is plenty warm enough. She'll let you know if she's too cold by shivering or if she feels cold at the base of her ears :)

dont think she will get cold for the next few weeks! mine are fully clipped, out 24/7 at moment, fit working, cubbing and competing, and still in rain sheets only and are often a bit too warm!! its still autumn, temps are good, odd slightly colder night but not cold in winter terms. horses hate being too hot.

i have a huge selection of summer sheets & stable rugs despite having no stables & layer when the weather gets bad, i also use the cotton summer sheets under a LW turnout if they have got soaked & cold to dry them off for half an hour or so whilst i feed ect & then take them off & rug up for the weather.

enjoy your new gal.

I often put a summer sheet, fleece or stable rug under a turnout to get the required thickness of rug for the weather.

Mine are still only in rain sheets, it's still warm here (down south) during the day.

I have one of the coldest horses in the world and his record for rug layering was FIVE rugs in -25C last winter... so yes, go for it.

You can do it but I wouldn't bother - will it be out 24/7 or in at night - if in at night just go for the lightweight turnout as it really is not that cold and they are horses afterall.

Of course if it is clipped that is a different matter too....

I have a TB x ID and she has a LW TO on 24/7 though really I should take it off during the day I haven't the past week for convenience more than anything - clean horse.....

Oh and congratulations...

Fi

Of course! I always layer rugs in the winter, Imo it keeps them warmer than one big thick rug anyway. Good luck and have fun with your new horse :)
