Can you list every time you fell off your current horse?

Ed
1 - 3rd time I rode him and the first time my dad came to veiw him, he started acting up (the real Ed came through in this) pointed him towards a jump he took off jumped all the trotting poles then cat leaped over the fence I hit the deck. My dad then pipes up 'we are having him' I am sat on the floor looking gobsmacked at my dad thinking NO!
2- Had him a few months and started jumping him a bit took him towards a fence, a second was on a right angle to it both fences met in the middle (barrel acted as the 'wing' for both jumps). I aimed to one of the fences right at the end he decided to go all eventer on my arse, he lept over the barrel, I went over the orignal fence.
3- He had a week off after pulling himself in the field so was taking it easy with a long hack around our fields and he got rather excited as he usualy does in fields, took him up one which is VERY VERY steep and around the top of it. Coming back down he was bunny hopping and piaffeing down it
mad.gif
I took a pull on him and he stopped but then got his own back by launching forwards and threw a massive buck. No way was I stopping on him, kept hold of my reins for dear life much to his disappointment as he tried to bugger off.

I used to fall off him on a regular basis those were just the most memorable.

*clutches wood with dear life* I am yet to fall off Sty.

1- a few weeks into having him I went for a hack with 2 others and he bucked and i flew off.

2- exactly the same as the 1st time!

3- on my own doing my intervals in the field he did a huge buck and i flew off yet again!

4- While having a jumping lesson he took hold, went flat out into the jump and cocked it up and i flew off onto my head and gave me a concussion.

5- mav decided that a water jump in the novice pc champs was about 6' deep when it was only about 6'', his knees buckled and he fell then got up, scrambled over the jump in the water , fell onto his knees again and scraped his nose on the ground and just as he got up and went up the ramp out of the water i gracefully flopped off!

5-night before last jumping in the school he got hte pole between his legs and went down.

I know there is more between 3-4 but i just cant remember!

had my mare about 6 months and havent fallen off her yet! (touch wood :P) but there have been several wobbly occasions! one i remember vividly was losing my stirrups half way round our first 3ft3 hunter trial because she tripped and i was slightly unseated, but somehow (it still baffles me today) we managed to clear the last 4 jumps! and have you ever tried bringing an EXTREMELY strong horse back to you without being able to use your body weight haha...i suppose it was the thought of losing her if i had fallen that kept me on! (little S**t to catch in a 3 acre field at home let alone acres and acres of XC course!) fun times though :P love her

Not a bad record Naturally! I had my old pony 2 years and fell off her twice which I think it pretty good going.

Fall 1 - doing pairs XC with a mate. Mate went the wrong way, my pony and I had a small disagreement (I tried to go correct way, she tried to follow friend), she lost her back legs and slipped onto her side and I sat down next to her. We both got up looking surprised

Fall 2 - asked her to jump a large 'house' fence XC schooling. She realised 2 strides out just how wide it was (so did I actually

) and stopped. I slid over her head onto the top of the fence. Fence was far too big for her and I felt very stoopid.

I try not to fall off too often. In the last 2 years, the other falls i've had were

Fall 3 & 4 - fell off unbroken Welsh D twice. He was a serious problem horse and would bolt as soon as he felt you in the saddle. The second time I fractured my spine coming off him. I didn't ride him again after that as my boss said he was too dangerous and we got rid of him.

Fall 5 - fell off Sovereign at a show. In front of boss who had just announced that horse was for sale
blush.gif
also in front of friends/family/clients/RS helpers/work colleagues/other people I was supposed to be riding for that day

Horse spooked at the entry gate 2 strides out from a fence, I got him straight but he then spooked at the fence, whipped round and dropped me straight over his shoulder

was mortified. LOL

I have fallen off Murphy quite a bit...not sure I can remember them all but here's a few:

1. When I'd had him a month my dad came to see my new safe pony - Murphy turned a corner sharply in the school and I went out the side door, much to my dad's amusement.

2. Was sat on him talking to someone in the school when totally out of the blue her horse span round and tried to double barrel Murphy, who jumped out of the way and I landed on the floor.

3. Forgot to tighten girth, leant over to close menage gate, landed in muddy puddle
crazy.gif

4. Murphy tanked to the gate of the school, ducked sideways at the last minute and I ended up on the floor (think this happened quite a few times
blush.gif
)

5. Murphy put in a nasty stop before a tiny little jump (a year ago this week) and I carried on, landed on the metal cup on the jump wing and still have a very obvious scar (I should have been wearing a body protector). I got back on and carried on, didn't even know it was bleeding until I got off!! It bl**dy hurt tho!!

6. Out hacking in fields - my friend's pony spooked, which made Murphy jump, and my total lack of balance meant I ended up on the floor.

7. Last one was in Feb - Murphy ran out at a jump and I came out the side door ... my friend caught it on camera.

eeek I know I am due another fall soon
crazy.gif
but at least I do fall off slightly less than I used to!!

1. Spook with a twist (cat in hedge)
2. Spook with a double twist (pigeon in hedge
3. Monster spook (human on gallery of indoor school)
4. Spook (??? - I couldn't see anything

Once a year for 4 years he's sent me rocketing out the side door - but he's done wonders for my seat. He sees tigers in the hedge (and sometimes even cats!) and does monster sideways leaps and spins. Always fall off the same way and touch wood nothing hurt but pride. He's a good boy - just a tad nervy!

I have had my old mare 18 years and have fell off her 3 times.......all on the same xc course......all on the same day.......she is usually fab xc but after her 3rd duck out and 3rd time landing on my feet I gave up for the day. She must have been having a bad day.

Had Bear 2 years and fallen off him twice.
Last summer we had been out for a lovely relaxing hack and we were just on our way home and crossing the road to the lane, he spooked at something on the ground to the right so I tapped his shoulder and told him to get on and then he spooked at dead grass on the left and spun, I went flying out the side door and landed on my hands and knees!
This March I fell off doing XC and broke my wrist and thought I had broken my back!
Not bad really, even when he was 1st broken in 2 years ago he was a little angel!

Had my mare nearly a year and come off once, a few weeks ago. She is a VERY sharp mare so took her for her first hack in company with a friends saint of a pony. Was going well until said pony decided for the first time in its life to nap at the end of the road, mine joined in but I manged to get her going again and was feeling quite pleased with my self, until pony span, crashing into my mare!! She went bolt upright, I clung round her neck like a monkey and managed to get her down, turned to my friend with a massive grin, feeling well chuffed that Id stayed on the beast, and she stuck her head between her knees, gave 3 of the biggest bucks I have ever felt, and deposited me on the tarmac!!!rather nasty graze o n arm and saw stars!! Then the little cow wouldnt let me get back on again, so had to limp all the way back to the yard - oh the shame!!!

Come off my 4yo just the once, got bronced off about 3 months ago.
The little TB I have just sold didn't fall off at all, would have been tricky to come off him given he doesn't do anything to get you off!
And my old boy I have had for 6 years I have lost count! Came off him 3 times in the first month (bucked off after jumping), then got to grips with that before he spun me off twice in as many days
blush.gif
Then he dropped me once when coming back into work with a spook/spin/buck ... I think thats it but could easily have come off more and just not remembered!

well despite her tryin quite a few times to buck me off n oh yeah runnin off with me every time we go for a hack in the last 5 years iv only fallen off her once. it was both our fault but mainly mine cos i didnt do the girth up tight enough n as i tried to open the paddock gate she went sideways n the saddle slipped right round n i was on the floor LMAO much to the amusement of people around.

This is an easy one for me. Bought my horse as a 4 year old, never fell off him until he was 9 yrs old, and haven't since (PLEASE, I AM TOUCHING WOOD).
shocked.gif
Sadly, on the one occasion I did fall off I broke my lumbar spine which required metal scaffolding to be implanted, as well as bone grafts and other nasties......................................

I think so....

First time I was jumping a ditch, she swerved to join her friend and i carried on haha.

Second time I got on, she span, bucked and I fell in a heap.

Third she had been in for a while, went mad rodeoing and I got thrown off.

Fourth and final, we were jumping through a grid, she stopped and then leaped from standstill and we parted company.

First and last most deffo my fault, other 2 just plain unlucky!

Yes, I could list all the times I've ever fallen off and count them on one hand. I DON'T DO FALLING OFF. I'm a bitch at that rodeo bull fair ride thing.

The first AND LAST time (
wink.gif
) I fell off the ex-racer was about a month ago, I mounted, he paniced and just did everything to get me off. When I do fall I do it pretty badly, so while I mented I paid a lady to ride him twice, eek he took her off twice and left her in a bired wire fence.
blush.gif
Spent a few weeks rebacking him and hes a dream
grin.gif

I have had George 15 months and have fallen off 4 times, once on a hack when he span and I came off at full pelt gallop - really scared me and still haunts me.

Bucked off at a show when he got excited because he was actually jumping at a show - he trod on my leg and I ended up eating half of the arena!

Twice recently when he spooked in canter at the water canon in the field next to our school and I just fell off the side!

What a great topic!

Bought my first horse mid-May and my first fall from her was on Thurs. Not sure how I fell off out hacking in a field but got concussion and was taken to A+E. My horse got a cut on her leg which needed stitches and is now on 2-3weeks box rest.

Well i could list the times i've fallen off my horse but I won't bore you. BUT as for my daughter, i lost count years ago. Let's just say she won the pony club camp splat board as she fell off 5 times 3 of them in the same lesson.

Poor child, good job she's tough. I must admit it's not her riding that's the problem, but a very naughty little pony, who sticks in stops when jumping. Hopefully the new pony won't be such a challenge.

1) I fell off my horse the first time I sat on him, who knew 17hh of fat, unfit, hairy cob could be so sharp!! Once I was back on, the git attempt to chuck me off several other times!

2) I rode out one christmas morning after a heavy nights drinking on christmas even, having a lovely canter when horse spotted a killer in the bush!
He then bolted about two miles, with me, a policeman and several horsey locals chasing him! The local football club can't have been too happy to find carthorse footprints all over there pitch!
blush.gif

Thank god it was christmas and there was no traffic!
Again, he tried to dump me again the entire way back to the yard, once I had caught him and got back on!

3) I was warming yup for jumping, trotting round the arena when pony tripped and I went sailing over his head!! I hadn't even started jumping!
blush.gif

4) Out hunting, pony jumped hedge, caught his toes and pecked majorly, I flew over his head and then got squished in the mud by him running over the top of me!

There were another two times which I don't technically count as he fell over!

1) Pony bolted, slipped on concrete, and squished me!! Flattened my ankle and used my thigh to push himself up!

2) Cantering in a horrid school, the surface majorly shifted, pony fell and again squished me (same ankle!).

Neither times my ankle broke, a fact I am sure is down to my lace up mountain horse ankle boots!!
grin.gif

Not too bad for seven years!
I fell I am now due another one, and when it happens I will blame you, Naturally, for making this post!!!

my current loan horse ... once ;-) (he tripped whilst doing a flying change, i landed on his neck, he didnt like that very much so stopped dead and I hit the deck!)

My horse (whom I've had 3 yrs but has been on/off injured for past year and currently un-rideable) .... yeah fell off him so many times i have totally lost count. Usually as he stopped dead at jump or swerved at very last second to avoid jump.
In fact managed to fall off twice at 1 show in the clear round session at beg of day. Oooops! Didn't bother with a class, LOL.

Must admit to falling off him once out hacking .. he spooked at a drain, I was day-dreaming and had no hope of staying on. Fortunatly he just stood there staring down at me as if to say "Ooops"

Had mine 5 years
1) Bronced me off first time I got on him.
2) Bronced me off second time I got on him.
3) Bronced me off next day when I got on him.

Sent him away to be re-broken.

4) Spooked out on a hack, spun and dumped me off side.
5) Spooked at his shadow, plopped off side (again).
6) Bronced on a hack.

Did well for a few years then ...

7) Spooked at drainpipe and fell off (first time I'd got on after baby had been born), so an excuse for not being as secure as I've learnt to be.
8) Jumping - so excited he backed himself into a corner and bronced, caught me by surprise and off I sailed.
9) Jumping - dirty stop and spin, fell off and got dragged.
10) Last week - Had a funny do in the school and spun, got dragged again.

Now have the stirrups that you can't (hopefully) get your foot stuck in.

Once, four years ago, when she was four, and I was doing baby schooling in the sand school, deep and indoors....unfortunately she spooked at her own shadow in the sun, caught her over-reach boots landing on her knees. I landed on her neck. She then lept up and I thumped back into the saddle, which gave her a bit of a shock so bronced around the school, depositing me in the middle with a very audible "oh f**K". Whilst I was spitting out sand she came back and gave me a nuzzle wondering how it was that I ended up there no doubt. She never held me to account for it and I got straight back on with a friend who had heard the commotion on standby at the gate. Ever since I have used the Westrop over-reach boots. We have not parted company since, and she has put in some escape snapping jaws corkscrews and bucks.

Had Salad 11 years, fell off when he teleported as a 5yo coming back from medium trot to working.

Fell off when he fell/slipped at a fence 2 seasons ago out hunting, and fell off last year when he did his 2nd ever teleport at the age of 14 - again out hunting.

Fell off Molly last year when she pecked on landing over a fence out hunting. And fell off when she fell after getting tangled in a barbed wire (loose and rusty) fence after spooking at a cow on the other side of the bridleway.

Thats it atm.

I've fallen off my horse once in the two years I've had her, and it was today. She's up for sale at the moment, and I was showing her to a potential buyer, so just the perfect time to take my first tumble from her I think you'll agree
blush.gif
Got to chuckle really, should be on the stage with such good comedy timing

OMG i have lost count the amount of times i have fallen of in 40yrs!

Can i list injuries instead!Last time was on dipstick oops i meant Kane 17hh 6yr old kwpn who bronced at the yard gate in march this year!
Injuries Broken coccyx?(spellings not good) whilst schooling fat ,napping 12hh pony, broken leg whilst having a jumping lesson, horse put in a dirty stop and i landed on my feet!bottom teeth (now very wonky) whilst out hacking, got wacked in the face by a branch!
blush.gif
went over the back of horse (I should have been a stunt rider!) Spiral fracture of hand , which now has two titanium pins in, i was doing rising trot out hacking but horse was bucking!
tongue.gif

I must be doing something wrong. I ride for a living and falling off usually occurs at work usually once or twice a year - I am breaking in baby Arabs for racing though. As for my own horses - Murphy has been numerous times over the last 9 years although last time I fell of him was at a showjumping clinic about 5 years ago. As for Tarquin, well he was a wild untouched bolshy boy when I got him so here we go -
1 - February 2007 - first day off lunge line in school when breaking him in.
2 - March 2007 - next time I tried to ride him after that event.
3 - August 2007 - Trotting along a field out hacking and stupid girl from yard was trotting on his arse with her scratty pony, he kicked out and then panicked, span and reared.
4 - October/November 2007 - 50 yards outside of yard on a hack he launched himself into a rodeo, since I was still riding him in a RACING saddle in absence of any money to buy him a proper one, I fell off.
5 - February 2008 - He had been behaving beautifully in his new saddle, went out on my own as we had been doing and he got scared by a hedge cutter, reared up, I ended up behind the saddle and was pulling him over with me.
6 - July 2008 - Our first lesson on our own at Queach. He was just so excited, he reared and span. I came off, got straight back on and made him work hard for 20 minutes.
I feel like a total incompetant compared to you lot.

Same here - I have a sore ankle after today, but am convinced its not worse because of my mountain horse boots and chaps.

well, I've only fallen off oscar and Ty three times. Ty once when I first got him and overfed him - bronc, bronc and landed on my feet. Then I fell off Ty when he first got spavins and I was jumping him on grass - he reared and I fell off backwards.

Fallen off Oscar once, when I overfed him.

Do you see a theme emerging?

i've had my current lad 8 year, i lost count of my falls 7 and a half years ago, he can be a superstar if he is in the mood but if not he can be a little S****. He can buck for britain, at least 6ft off the floor (and at 14hh thats a big buck) and he can buck so hard that he gets his front feet off the floor at the same time. When he bucks he realy means business most of the time (baring the odd excited buck).

Ive lost count of the amount of times i've been in A&E because of him mum at one stage was on first name terms with all the paramedics and all the nurses in A&E, she even had her own chair in the waiting room!

not had any realy major injuries from them though as i very quickly perfected the art of falling well. the worst would be the 2 squashed discs in my lower back.

that said he hasnt had me off in nearly a year now!
