Can you please tell me what licks you put in your stable?

As above :)

What licks does everyone use?

I currcurrently use the likit products, the tongue twister that goes onto the wall and has 2 likits in. This usually lasts her at least a week or so.

Looking for something more beneficial for when she's in more? Was thinking horselyx as the loves them and can fold away to avoid over consumption? But worried they'll stain all her rugs etc?

What does everyone use? I'm sue there's loads I've not heard of.

She doesn't like the himalayan ones, she's got one in her stable that's been there forever.

A friend suggested Magnacalm as her horse loves it?

Ps I know about the sugar in likits but for how long they last her I'm not too worried, and she's never fizzy etc!

:D

All that sugar is not good whether it shows by making them fizzy or not, it is still not beneficial in any way in my view there is no feed value or minerals in the lickits.
Mine have a Himalayan salt block and that is it, they have feed and hay to occupy them while in overnight, if they are on box rest for some reason I have used the Dengie stable licks which are less molassed than most and they do last for months as they tend to use them as a lick rather than a treat.

Yes I agree, I just mean that by going throgh one small likit a week the sugar content wouldn't be more than having a few polo's/apples. If she scoffed them in a night or two she wouldn't have them!

I used to go for those seeded ones that come in different flavours, which lasted a good while, but then I bought the banana one. It took her about two days to realise that if she slobbered all over it, it would go soft and she could then nibble away at it, so now they're banned.

She doesn't like the old fashioned salt blocks (which dissolve in the damp anyway) and she'll only use the Himalayan ones for a day or so before ignoring them.

Following thread for ideas!

Yes mine doesn't like the old fashioned ones or himalayan ones either :S would like something to keep her entertained in her stable when she's gotta stay in for long periods of time x

Himalayan salt freely available in stable but my mare is allowed a treat lick (horslyx original) after working whilst I rub her down - and I remove it when I leave her stable.

Mine has a Himalayan salt block and that's all. He loves it and the big ones last a few weeks. He also has a vitamunch block but that's not left in in the stable all the time as he's more than capable of eating the whole thing at once!

If you wet the Himalayan licks and roll them in dried mint that keeps them busy for a while

I like fibre blocks and treat balls (not personally!!)

Another vote for the Himalayan licks - if she has the choice between that & lickits then she'll choose the lickits every time - so don't give her the choice 😊
As for the horselyx they're 30% sugar so of course she loves them - my usually sensible ID x gelding turned into a ground pawing maniac when I gave some of that as a 'treat' - straight in the bin!

Around Xmas time they have likits over xmas day when the family meet for Christmas lunch and intermittently through the yard.

What do you want to feed licks for? Is it just to avoid boredom in the stable? If so, much better to feed plenty of hay/haylage to keep the horse occupied.

Yeah it is :) she has adlib hay and her feed in the treat balls to encourage nanatural behaviour. She gets bored very easily so when she has to be in (injury etc) I just wanted something to keep her occupied. She has the likits that she'll have, but only goes through about 1 (small ones) a week, and that's if she's In all the time so I don't mind her having them. I left her horselyx small one in a bucket in her stable that I use for a little ttreat after riding, and that's so far lasted her 3 days so I don't think she'll gorge on a big one.

Uncle Jimmy's every so often.. they are a rare treat with my two due to the horrific sugar content. Your horse will not lap a salt lick up like a likit, all of them will take the salt when they feel they need it. ;)

We use Himalayan Salt licks. All 4 horses use them but at different rates. They also have salt in their 'hard' feed (chaff and supplements). I wouldn't give any kind of molassed lick, just think what the sugar content does to their teeth. Horses are not evolved to digest refined sugar.

Himalayan salt lick - wouldn't feed anything sugary; would rather feed a turnip or something if neddy actually liked them.

I've just put the tail end of my salt lick in a vita munch net which actually seems to be slowing him down - for those of you who want to keep feeding the lickits, maybe sticking them in a net would help make them last longer? It would make them much harder to get to.
