I'm pretty sure if you made people pay a stipend to ride in a top hat, a lot of people would get over their objections.

not the most logical argument BB-do you wear your breeches out and about? I mean i REALLY love my eurostar breeches with blingy bits, but i dont wear them down the pub! so as much as i love my top hat, no i will not be wearing it to work etc.
how odd.
The thing about personal choice is, unless one is a hermit, it isn't personal choice.
If someone can make a western hat with a helmet within it, you'd think someone could do the same with a top hat, no?
Do many riders in the UK wear a harnessed velvet hat (to BSEN/PAS levels) with a tail-coat for either eventing or dressage....I was trying to think if I have seen anyone....as am thinking of using this combination next year?
Canada also has an advantage as it can play the "universal health care" card and there are already huge taxes on booze and tobacco, relative to many other countries, with an eye to offsetting their medical effects.
we should have that advantage too I guess?
Technically, although the idea of taxing "risky behaviour" doesn't seem so prevalent here.
The American's obviously, can't play that card, but they have the lawsuit one.![]()
I wonder how long it will be before it is true here as well. I can see legislation hitting hard as insurance requirements get tighter.
I thought insurance would drive the whole thing as well. I was expecting farriers, vets, instructors and show organisers to get their hands forced by insurance requirements.
