Hope your girl is recovering well. And well done you for staying so calm and getting her to the vets safely.

A pony on my old yard had colic surgery last September and has recovered very well so the prognosis is very good. Keep us informed. x

i had similar with an impaction colic, very fraught drive to Newmarket but not as drastic as yours .

They were amazing and she made a full recovery.

She is in excellent hands and speak to them before discharge about getting her off the lorry.
 
Oh you poor poor thing!!

I can sympathise because I went through a very similar thing with my late mare but our story did not have a happy ending.

It is heart wrenching seeing them like that and having to be the strong one even though you feel every agonising moment for them. My horse was trying to go down in the mud as we were loading her it was awful. All I wanted to do was cry but my mum said 'don't you dare cry you have to make her believe everything is OK' so I was shouting cheerfully 'get up girl! You can do it princess!' all the while trying to stifle fear.

Awful, I wouldn't wish it upon anybody. It sounds as if your girl will be ok, what a little fighter :).
 
All I can say is that it sounds as though you handled that horrible situation amazingly! So well done. She's in the best place and as you said at least she is still with us. Hope your girl makes a quick recovery xx
 
How terrifying for you and your poor pony.

Everything is stacked up in her favour though:- you were there when it started, the vet came quickly and made the right decision to get her referred, you got there quickly and she was taken to surgery immediately.

All the boxes are ticked and she's in the best place. Plus you have everybody here willing her to make a good recovery.

My arab mare had colic surgery last september. She was three months pregnant at the time too, so an extra worry. Like your mare, she is my horse of a lifetime, so I fully appreciate the worry.

Also like your mare, D's colic was witnessed and she was in surgery very quickly. She had swallowed some wire from a chinese lantern :(

She made a complete recovery and is now a happy mummy to an 8 week old filly foal.

Fingers crossed for her. A good friends horse has gone through something very simillar. Came back from hospital after a week, now been back home a fortnight & doing brilliantly. Hope everything goes as well for you.
 
Hi, so I've just got back from newmarket!

Was so good to see her, think she was pleased to see me too! Vets rang this morning and said she wasn't drinking anything, I wasn't surprised she is a fussy cow! I offered to take her normal water bucket over and they were a bit bemused but agreed, anyway as soon as we filled it up for her she had a good long sniff and then a drink! Nice to know she enjoys her home comforts and things she recognises!

Was also very surprised as they had said originally she wouldn't eat anything till tuesday at least however when I got there she was eating a small bit of hay and I was informed she's had a few mouthfuls of grass and she'd had a basic breakfast! Can't believe it. She also went for a little walk around the yard this morning!

I can't fault the care she is receiving, they seem only to happy (like me) to falter to her every whim! Ha ha!

She also has a new admirer, apparently the horse in the box opposite her is a very famous racehorse according to the vets (recognised the name at the time but can't remember it now, apart from that it began with a 'c' I think and the second word was Bay) They have had to erect a temporary screen between them as he was just screaming and screaming his head off at her until they did so and was broncing like a good 'un round his box, despite having just had colic surgery too!

So anyway, all positive news at the minute i'm pleased to report and if anyone knows how to show my facebook pictures on here you can more than gladly have a look at her album! Thanks so much for everyone's best wishes, I think we've both needed them, but I feel like we may just be getting on the right road now!

I know, it was such a close call, feels like it was meant to happen when I was there. Weird I know. And very lucky that she's being a good patient!

You sound like you coped a lot better than I did when this happened to me & Jim - all I could do was cry my eyes out! Her case sounds very similar to his &, just over 2 years later, he's fine & back in normal work (though I'm still paranoid).

Don't think it was Collier and he certainly only looked 5-6 years old, think it might have had an 's' in it too somewhere. Think all the stress and excitement blew the name right out of my head! He was very handsome though, a lovely walnut colour all over!
 
Nari - I normally would have been the same, but don't know what came over me! Think it was because everyone around me was panicking, someone had to be calm, although you should have seen the state of my bandaging attempt after about 4 goes for her to travel up there - even the vet was trying to stifle a giggle as my hands were shaking that badly!

Don't know when i'll be able to get back as don't think it's really appropriate to take a 2 year old with me and visiting is 3pm till 5pm which is when OH is at work during the week. They haven't said how long they'll keep her but i'm going to ask when I get to speak to her specialist vet again tomorrow!

Glad shes on the mend, she looks very perky today. What a relief, hope shes home soon :)
 
She is looking very good for so soon after surgery. And a very good sign that they are allowing her small quantities of food.

I have been through exactly the same as you, you go into auto-pilot and it is only afterwards that the reality really hits you. When I went to Rossdales to visit him the day after surgery (well about 12 hours later), I walked into the reception area and I think the shock and emotions of the previous 24 hours hit me. I couldn't even say his name without bursting into tears.
