Was woken up at 6 this morning being told that rich was out rampaging round yard and looks like he had be out all night,He is quite aggressive and stopped 1 person from coming on yard to feed and cornered another in barn and was trying to stamp him and trying to bite him,my friend arrived and managed to get him into an empty stable and rang me. I went up and he had trashed everything he could get hold of,eaten all the feeds that were left out for this morning, emptied nets all over floor and smashed a bail of straw everywhere. And i have been flapping for weeks about getting him out on the ice he has proved he can manage it as there where hoofprints everywhere in the fresh snow we had overnight.

Hate to say 'I told you so', but they do manage suprisingly well.

Chuck the head case out.

Mine wsa turned out for the first time by my friend the other day, she took my mare down to the field first before bringing her gelding down but my mare panicked cause she thought she was going to be left out alone, and she legged it back to the yard, so they got another person to lead both of them out together, only to find that my mare decided to bring herself in 90 minutes later, and was found on the yard looking for some food! she obviously prefers being in. (*shrugs)

Turn him out or shoot the bloody thing.

Sounds like he is perfectly capable of killing someone.

If I was your YO I'd have asked you to take your animal and sod off by now.

Good heavens.

He is allowed turnout every other day for only a few hours a day but as the track down to field is so bad NOBODY is turning out

Good heavens.

agree straight to the point.

He is obviously a handful (to put it lightly)from what i have read, sorry to state obvious but these people on the yard who got charged/all most kicked don't u think you have a duty of care to them?? if i was going up to do my horse and some crazy horse was loose i wouldn't be happy. find best thing for him which is probs turn out or walking him twice day to get some of the fizz out

Just speak ya mind Tinkerbell that my horse you talking about he may be a fruitloop but i love him and will not shoot him thank you

Its TinkerBEE, to you.

And yes I will speak my mind.

I'm sorry and you clearly do love him but from what I have read, he sounds mental. Whether hes mental 24/7 or just if not getting turned out, I cannot say as I don't know you.

I am honestly gobsmacked that you, and the YO have allowed it to get to the stage where he has broken out and CORNERED someone. If I were those people I would be going mental at you and the YO.

He sounds a danger to himself and everyone around him.

As a livery I would want him gone before he injures me or my horse.

As an owner I couldn't stand back and know that my horse behaved in such a way. If your YO is still not allowing him out all the time they are obviously as daft/blinkered as you, and I am glad I'm not in their care.

they dont fall in te snow, my horses have been out in bad snow (im in scotland where there is real snow
wink.gif
) and they have been cantering and galloping about and out of all of them funnily enough none of them have fallen, even if they slip they have the sense and self preservation to stop themselves

OP cannot help it if yard rules dictate her turnout.

It sounds like you need to give him some form of excercise, I would try and make a round track in the school and lunge him for 20 mins a day just to get his brain ticking over. He is really clearly stressed and you need to find a way to manage him so his beahviour doesn't result in an accident.

I absolutey agree with all of this...having read your previous posts about him and his behaviour I would go further than calling him a loonie....if I had a horse than cornered me in the stable regularly and was a nasty git to handle then...well, I dont know that I would shoot him..... but I certainly wouldnt be owning him any longer....whats enjoyable about that?

I'm sure you do love him, but it seems as though he is putting other people and their horses at risk....and thats simply not fair.

^^ Thats a bit of a silly thing to say, some of us have difficult horses that we find very gratifying. I don't see the point of having a horse you don't ride, but I don't tell people they should get rid just because I don't understand it...

I disagree with making sweeping statements labelling horses you are not familiar with, as dangerous and agressive. There are reasons why horses display untypical behaviour. He is clearly showing his displeasure at being kept stabled for a such a long period of time.

Theres a difference between having a problem horse and managing the behaviour and ignoring repeated advice and having a horse that corners people and tries to stamp on them.

He is not usually dangerous to others on yard was just a freak that i left the door open and he wandered out i know he did wrong and i have apologised to all concerned and they ok with it. and sorry tinkerbee for spelling ya name wrong. There is no yards in this area that do 24 hour turnout through winter as i have got friends that would gladly move to one if it was available

That's a bit harsh. It doesn't sound like he broke out, the owner didn't secure him properly, which, OP, if I were your YO or another livery I would be mighty miffed about. This horse does sound like a bu**er and OP if you chose to keep a horse like that it is your responsibility to manage his behavior without putting other people at risk.

OP, get yourself an extra lock lower down the door, and a strong door chain to hang behind the door at all times, horses should not be able to escape without demolishing the stable! You also have to do something about your management in general if this horse is consistently obnoxious and it isn't just a temporary problem due to the weather conditions.

If my horse got out onto the yard and was faced with a situation he was scared of there is every chance he would attack someone. I certainly don't think he should be shot!! Its a humans fault he is the way he is, I am damned if a human will ever blame him for the way he's been made!! Just as The OP's horse has been made to act this way by the stupid rule of the YO - the animal cannot really be blamed for behaviour caused by something it cannot help!

I am just lucky that no accidents have happened involving Ed's door being left open etc. Its just an accident and I'm sure OP didn't mean for it to happen.

Please tell this to woman that lost hers just before christmas due to it falling on the ice and breaking its leg resulting in having to be shot and left in field for a week because knacker wagon couldnt get to the farm to pick up

I suggest you read previous posts regarding his bahaviour in the stable normally....not caused by the weather conditions and when he is having turnout.....and OP's name is in refence to the said horse

I agree word for word with what Tinkerbee is saying. He is dangerous now not just to himself but to others around him. How would you have felt if he had double barrelled that poor person he had cornered this morning?
crazy.gif

Turn him out. If he has to go out by himself, then wait at the gate for him until he has stopped hurtling around and then bring him in. If he is only allowed out for a few hours every other day then split it up, an hour in the morning an hour in the evening, if you can get up at lunch time, then do it and turn him out for half hour. Go to your vets get some sedalin, ACP.
Do it before he kills himself or somebody.
