Can't stop thinking about this horse....

Billie, I have followed your threads about your weight and I just want to say what a remarkable woman you are, the determination you have and the weight loss that you are achieving is fantastic!

You are refusing to get on Olive until you have lost weight, which to me makes you a brilliant and kind human being, you would rather lose out on riding your horse for a while than risk putting her under strain, you'd be surprised how many people wouldn't do that. Frankly you are one of my favourite people on this forum, and Olive is very lucky to have you, as you are to have her!! :D

Thank you lovely, he is doing well :)

Gah. No nothing that hho can flap on about for 14 pages making no point but their own opinions on someone they've met is eever boring......... ;)

Very nice! Not overpriced. I'm guessing but I would say he hasn't jumped that much, as he doesn't really know to tuck his legs up. Which is probably no bad thing in an 11 yo. Lots of dealers get horses this age traded in by people looking for something either younger or more experienced in a certain discipline, doesn't mean there is necessarily anything wrong with the horse, just that at that age, a competitive rider would be looking for a more extensive record of winnings, otherwise they would just start from scratch with a younger horse.

That is very, very kind and much appreciated! Although I feel that some is a little misplaced, if I had stuck to my diet then I should have been around 14 stone by now but I started, lost, put it all on again and had to start again but I am determined and I will not give up this time. The last couple of weeks have had me thinking that I could ride Olive but I know deep down I shouldn't and so I have resisted.

What's another few weeks? It is more likely that I will wait another four weeks. If I can stay on track in four weeks I should be around the 15.8 mark and at that weight I will start hacking out for a short walk. I should say that Olive is being hacked, schooled and jumped regularly at the moment, she hasn't been off work.

Thank you Lolly Dolly. You made me smile :p <<< see!

Came back to edit to say another thank you! Thank you!

Yes, he is nice looking isn't he! Thanks.

Sorry, another one from me.

I don't like big bays as a rule, or this 'type', but I genuinely can't stop thinking about this guy.

Don't worry Billie, you can go ahead and view him, he's not bay, he's seal brown. ;) :p :D

I don't see a problem with you looking at him. Take an experienced friend (partly to stop you from falling for him if he's unsuitable) and get him vetted. You are doing really well with your diet, sometimes the right horse comes up at the wrong time and you have to try to make it work.

If the journey is do-able I would go and see him. Its a dealer after all and if you make it clear you are 50/50 about it I am sure they will appreciate the honesty.
Perhaps take someone with you so if you ride they can make a short video and you can see how he is reacting to you as a rider

If you can discount him after that then you can put him out of your mind and be regretting not going to at least meet him

Ooooh yes he is seal brown, I am an idiot, I see brown and think bay. Thank goodness for the experts! And thank you for posting the pic!

I like your mare better. Weren't you considering giving up? Two horses and working full time is a PITA even if you really want them both.

I try not to even browse classifieds unless I am looking to purchase a horse, or I end up forming attachments like this and it isn't really sensible. I remember seeing another arab advertised that would have matched mine perfectly put in the stable next door (which was unoccupied) and it was called Flame. Not acceptable reasons for going and buying a horse but they were telling me to at the time, good job I have no spare money.

Do you want to change your horse? Do you want two horses? If either of these is a definite yes then go try out this chap but if you've got a nice horse and are pushed for time then I think you are better off ignoring being drawn to this horse.

ETA Well done with the weight loss Billie, stick at it!

Hi Flame, yes I did have a 'woe is me' moment and thought about giving up but I think it was linked to the no riding and I was kind of stuck, now I am moving somewhere it seems more realistic to say that I don't think I could ever be without one. This post really was a 'what do you think of him' rather than a 'I'm buying him tomorrow' kind of post. It probably isn't realistic to consider another but I have a habit of insisting that as I work so bloody hard I can have what I like within reason :) any animal of mine would never go without :)

But thank you for being the voice of reason. I often need that!

The bit I was struggling with is the fact that I would never, ever usually give this type of chap a second glance let alone check his advert 12 times a day for three days ;) that's what's got me thinking, that's all.

Sort your head out. That's no way to think.

Regardless of how hard you work (and I don't dispute that you do work very hard) it doesn't justify having what you want.

Ok this is a very rude question, but has that sort of thinking got something to do with your weight gain do you think?

I think you have misunderstood me and I found your post rude. Not as cut throat as it sounds. If I work hard enough to afford two horses, if I can provide for them and give them a happy and varied life, tell me why I shouldn't have them? If I had to pay someone to help exercise them when work gets tough or if I had to get a sharer would that be so bad.

Give me one good reason that if someone works hard enough and a desire is reasonable and wouldn't lead to harm to another or an animal why on Earth shouldn't they have the things they want.

Thanks.

That dealer always has horses in at that price, normally a little older and I was "friends" on FB but was obviously cleansed off! Never saw anything negative. My "but" is actually that horse is being ridden in a 3 ring gag. Will have some sort of poll pressure with that bit, but try as I might, I can't see which ring the rein is on. Fair enough if on the top but if on the bottom would be assuming said horse was overly strong and the photo of him schooling nicely irrelevant as effectively in a gag.

Hmmm, first thoughts were low tail set, croupy and overly pointy hocks......not my cuppa T.
Well done on the weight loss, can you do some for me too please, I'm hopeless.....:)

Not commenting on the horse but I looked after hunt horses of similar build who carried 16 and a half stone all day hunting hounds. I wouldn't let that put you off.

Looks like a nice solid chap. I have been to try at that dealer and found them to be pretty frank about the horse in question and not pushy. Several largeish 'hunted in Ireland' types.

I bought a horse (elsewhere privately).knowing I wasn't going to ride til my injury was fixed, sometimes they do just come up, she needed time to settle, I took her walkies in the meantime, now she doesn't mind traffic at all, it all worked out just fine!

I don't know how big your current horse is anyway but huge well done with the weight loss!

The answer is of course that there is no right answer.

But that by asking a forum you will get everything from "buy him now" to "is the reason you think you work hard and deserve to enjoy yourself linked to your weight gain". Astonishing!

Remember that just because a comment hurts doesn't mean it's right. It's just someone's opinion. It isn't the truth.

(P.S go and see him)

No no no, she is my favourite!!:p

You should go and see him Billie, the chances are in the flesh he won't measure up to what you think he is. If he does, you can think some more about it. When I was looking for my horse, I went to see 5 on a tour round the UK, one of them I was totally sure she was "the one" from the pics. When I got there she looked totally different to the pics, much bigger, and reared, quite a lot. It was an easy decision to work out she was indeed not the one! ;)

I agree. I was looking at half the huntsmen riding round the Badminton grounds on XC day and there were some proper chunks! I have a similar horse, perhaps a tad more back end (hard to see the width of that horse in the ad) and I would put 16 stone on him if they could ride well (had a novice heavy seated rider who was about 16 stones try him recently and he wasn't happy, whereas with a lighter seated heavy rider he didn't bat an eyelid).

Don't get down, go and look, perhaps video yourself on him, be honest to yourself about what you think you look like on him, then go from there. Chin up, you're doing really well...x

Personally I think it does! ...and I think it's a great reason to justify it, when you work hard you reap the rewards.

And if you can't really cope with the rewards but think they are justified anyway?

Do you think I would have posted that without the doubts raised by others and the OP about having another horse in the current situation?

It's not me who posted
"It probably isn't realistic to consider another but I have a habit of insisting that as I work so bloody hard I can have what I like within reason".

Now maybe I got the OP wrong, don't know them from Adam.
But if somebody posts that something isn't realistic and then goes on to try and justify an unrealistic proposition along the lines of "I deserve it anyway" it strikes me as childish more than anything.

And as I'm in for a penny, so might as well go for a pound.

I have lost count of the amount of times I have heard people who are struggling with weight issues say things like "well I walked instead of getting the bus so I deserve a treat".

Food, horses, whatever, it's all the same if you come from the point of view of being entitled/deserving.
Change the thinking.

Sounds much like my experience of internet dating, without the rearing... BOOM BOOM!

Arghimpossible I think you have gone a bit Piers Morgan on us, not all people put on weight because of complex emotional issues... I just get peckish :-)

My only comment would be that I'd check out how strong he is, he looks to be ridden off the bottom ring of a dutch gag in the pics.

AIP - probably not realistic as in it would stretch my time even further but I'm certainly not at my limit. Why exactly are you so grumpy?

I notice you have clung on to that one point but failed to notice the caveat which says that no animal of mine would go without.

Do you need some chocolate to cheer you up?

Tbf - I have heard a fair bit via PM and other avenues that may well have put me off a visit anyway.

You had better move on AIP incase somebody else attempts to 'think' about going to view a horse that they may/may not have time for ;)

Aw, sorry, to hear he's probably not the one for you.

Funny how something can grab you like that. You'll get grabbed again!
