Has just heard some sickening news from my best mate. One of the horses she was due to hack out with today was involved in a hit & run by a car. The driver drove back to his home where the police arrested him, he then stated that he doesn't care as horses shouldn't be on the road. This horse was PTS due to 3 broken legs and horrendous wounds inflicted by the car; thankfully the rider escaped unhurt. RIP Rusty, you'll be missed.

We don't know what is happening to the driver as of yet.

Oh my God, how awful, and what a shocking attitude to have.
What a terrible world we live in when someone thinks it is acceptable to kill something because they "don't approve" of it.
I hope this comment was made under caution, and is taken into account when his punishment is considered.

RIP Rusty, and thoughts go out to all who cared for him :(

RIP Rusty xx What an awful thing to happen, there are some truly horrible people on this earth. Hope the barsteward gets what he deserves!

How sickening, what a complete waste of skin and hair that 'human being' is. I hope that he gets what he deserves, shocked and horrified at his logic

RIP poor Rusty :( my thoughts are with your poor friend, God alone knows how she must be feeling.

That is so sad to read, I can not even think what your poor friend is going through. Poor horse RIP Rusty, words fail me that I can print about that low life, I really hope what goes around comes around and something he cares about is taken away from him.

Poor horse and what a nightmare for the rider. The driver's response beggars belief! I hope he gets a decent punishment but going from previous stories on here sadly I wouldn't hold my breath.

I know what I hope happens to the driver. But I would be banned by TFC for writing it on here. He probably thinks the same about cyclists and pedestrians in the road. Whatever criminal sentence he gets I hope DVLA give him at least a 10 year driving ban and an advanced test pass requirement before he ever gets behind the wheel again.

Jenny, may I ask which area of the country you are in. Friend had a very similar incident with a motorbike last fri, horse bolted when bike rode at her revving engine, and bike took off in pursuit shouting yee hah ride em cowboy. He has openly admitted to the police that he hates horses and they shouldn't be on the road. Police want to prosecute (he has a track record) but due to lack of witnesses can't do him for dangerous driving (speed limit was 60 so he can't have been speeding when persuing horse). Crazy, he'll kill someone soon.

Thats sickening  I would give anything for my horse to kick him in the head if this was to happen to us! it makes my blood boil!

That is dreadful! Poor Rusty! I cannot say what I am really thinking, and hoping what will happen to him, but I am glad the police got him. Evil excuse for a human being. I sometimes despair of the human race. So sorry for your friend. RIP Rusty x

Hi there,

We're in the Isle of Man - things like that never happen over here, so it's devastated and shocked the whole Island. apparently the man is renowned for his hatred of horses and he has had some close calls with hackers in the past.

I don't understand this lack of witnesses business. Many crimes don't have a witness - but the police still take action.

Oh my god, that's horrific.. So much pain and loss this last week or two..

I send my love to all that care about the horse and hope the animal that did this has a change of heart and suffers for what he's done one way or another..

Humans are the only true animals on planet earth..

Thoughts with the owner, so sad and so unnecessary :(

Karma eventually catches up with people so he will pay his wrongs eventually.

All these stories makes you worried to go out on the roads, I do minimal road work and that's just country lanes but I still don't like going out on them

The bike rider said 'the horse rider looked as though she was in control and enjoying it, so I stayed close to keep it going, I shouted encouragement because I was excited'

It was a young horse (backed a year and hacking well) out with another horse (the owner of both horses riding this one). A man in the village saw the horse career past his house and then fall but bike shot past the turn and wasn't seen.
