So I have just bought a leather seated Tiguan that is great in every way, but it does smell somewhat of dog. Not overpowering but its definitely evident one has been in there when you get in and get a whiff.. I have hoovered it, wiped everything down with dettol, been at it with Lenor spray, carpet odour remover spray and Febreeze and it still stinks..

Does anyone have any ideas?

Not sure what the problem is, every car I’ve had stinks of dog 🙄

Every one I have had stinks of horse, which I don't mind, but I have to admit that I cannot abide the lingering smell of dog!

Might be worth keeping a neutradol box in it, or a couple? They're pretty good!

Ahh I was wondering if these do what they say they do, or the odour bombs you can get.

White vinegar?
Baking soda?
Tried vinegar, baking soda I haven't - Do you just put it on the carpet?

Someone once told me that if you leave a bag of fresh grass clippings in a car it removes all smells. No idea if it works but if you still have a problem in a couple of months give it a try!

Have you seen those air freshener cans that valaters use?
You set them in the foot well with all the doors shut and the air con on flat out then set the off. They take about 10 minutes and apparently get into the fabric etc.
they did a good job on ours.

I would get an air freshener for now, then when it is warmer get a car valet and do a complete car clean, seats, carpet windows the lots.

I was going to suggest the same

Here is a link to what the professionals would use.

Please be careful none of these chemicals recommended are bad for dogs.
I have been using my car as a shoot wagon since September and it’s beyond vile. It will be off to the men at the old airfield soon…

It’s made me think, I don’t ever get in my little van and smell dog, however it really must. The entire back is basically a dog bed and it’s used for taking them out walking or whatever. It must stink and I must be nose blind 🙄

OP Clodagh has made a good point. I’ve only used the can things I said about in our car that the dogs don’t go in.
I’m not sure from your original post if you will be taking dogs out?
If not I do reccomend but maybe do check if you are!
Bicarbonate of soda I feel be worth a try otherwise. I sprinkle it on dog pee or other nasties and it does seem to work.
