Having worked with horses since leaving school. Variety of sole charge positions in various sports (polo/hunting/eventing/dressage). I got married and moved to Surrey/hants border where I was struggling to get work. I was forced to find an office job to tide me over for a few months and after almost 18 months I am still here. I have had my own horse and been teaching and doing freelance grooming etc at the same time to keep my hand in.

I have now the opportunity of a 3 day a week secure job with horses that would cover my bills/horse etc. this would leave me free to freelance the rest of the week.

Would I be totally barking to do it? Do I go for it while I am still young fit and able to?
I am only on 240 a week in my office job and pretty miserable
Going to the shop, so jelly tots for all

do it. if the jobs secure... you will be happy and cover all bills.... ?

have fun in your new job :)

lifes too short to be miserable.

I second this ^^ I only gave up working with horses because I couldn't pay the bills on my own. I have a secure graduate job now but have never felt the same satisfaction or enjoyment that I did when I was working on a yard. I used to like waking up and looking forward to going to work - hard to believe I'll ever feel like that in my boring old office job!

I'd go for it - after all if it doesn't work out you can do the same again as you're doing now. Don't look back & say "I wish I'd tried ...". Personally I'd much rather look back & say - "Sod it, that didn't work, where now.."

Reading your post felt very weird, it sounds like exactly the same situation I am in! I am also in surrey and since graduating struggled to find a job, took an office job to tie me over, and am not really suited to the office job style of work. I had some horrible moments where I thought, do I stick this out for security even though I am unhappy or do I take on something I will be happier in but risk an awful financial situation. I have stuck with it up til now but am happy as have been accepted to do a masters degree, so in 2 years time I will be able to start a career I am suited to!

Good luck with whatever you decide. It will all come right in the end. And at the end of the day I really think happiness in your job is so important.

Thanks guys, I know that I should go for it but I guess I am trying to build up the courage. It would be an easy deciscion if I could get a few more clients on board to boost the money too. I know that an agency round here charges over £18p/h so I have plenty of room for flexibility and competitive pricing. Feeling more confident already

From someone who is very unhappy with their current situation I would say Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!! It sounds like a great opportunity

Best of luck! :)
