Carl and Charlotte at Hartpury today

Yes, just got home. I had a great time, thought it was brilliant and so nice to have guinea pigs that were normal riders with normal problems. I usually come away from days like that feeling totally inadequate but tonight I'm all fired up :D

Yes agree - Hi puts everything across so simply and gives you inspiration. Loved watching Dances with Wolves and Nip and Tuck - fabulous riding and then to top it all Charlotte and Valegro. Watching him walking round at the end looking at the crowd, knowing he's the best - Amazing!

I too found it very inspirational. Instead of coming away thinking I can never achieve any of what was demonstrated, I did pick up a lot that I can transfer to my own horses. LOVE Dances with Wolves, surely one to watch and Valegro was just a superstar. Well he is isn't he? Great day and even my non - horsy OH enjoyed himself!

Amandaco2, Have you seen demos/lessons from Carl before? I've been to quite a few as he's so local ;) and he's so so consistent every time, a really straightforward training approach which is the same throughout the levels.

I'm fortunate that my trainer trains with Carl so many of the exercises looked familiar :) But I came away thinking to myself : more patience, more lightness, more straightness, more TRANSITIONS! :D calm repetition & attention to detail ;) ... now to put it into practice!

TBH my brain is still trying to digest what amounts to a full day of tuition  It was very intense and I was exhausted when I got home!

I appreciated the emphasis on stretching, before and after schooling. I do stretch but perhaps not effectively enough. Also really liked the discussion about tension in the horse and how to work with it - pertinent to one of my horses in particular - the work on flexion.

It was nice to see a 4 year old being worked and Carl explaining it is all about quality not quantity, that all youngsters have little habits like head tilting (which mine does at the moment) and to do your stretching at the end of the session - to start off with a light contact and relaxation and not with lots of energy, impulsion which creates a tightness and as he said 'What are you going to do with all that energy with a young horse if you create it'. I hope someone has recorded it and it comes out on DVD as so much information to take in. Also loved Dances with Wolves, definately one to watch.

Yes, i went too... So much more I informative than I thought and took loads away from it. Carl is truly fantastic and an absolute hero of mine, could listen to him all day long (well we did lol) the horses and riders did a super job too...

Indeed, although as I looked at my horses yesterday afternoon absolutely covered in mud in a rug and only having been out for 2 hours, I do wonder about my sanity!!

It would be incredible if it came out on DVD - how do we suggest it??
