I am waiting for a call to let me know how they got through the night and will post asap.
I didn't sleep much last night after yesterdays action due to much coffee and coke so sat up and read my way through pages of posts and came to the following conclusions - that you are all clearly mad and wonderful all at the same time but heaven forbid you get on to a real conspiracy theory!!
Ok - just to clear a few things up.
The field - whilst it looked like there was plenty of grass there wasn't it was in desperate need of topping and some attention, full over overgrown weeds and some ragwort - definately not enough for old horses with poor teeth. There was a trough of water - all be it farily grim and there was a shed with hay etc in it. So to all intents there was everything that they may 'need'.
The other 2 horses - they are of no immediate concern as they were both young, plenty of condition (fine examples of natives living on nothing) and it wasn't clear if they were owned by the same person as Carrot and Spud. They will now however by montiored by the necessary authorities.
The vets - wild speculation as to those involved. In the end the 'right' vet was found who did the necessary. As with all things there are shades of grey and there may well be other factors that had to be taken into account of which we know nothing.
BHS/RSPCA/WHW - the BHS were magnificent but could not have done what they did without the support of the RSPCA who will be pursuing any charges of neglect. So a big thanks as this is just the tip of the iceberg for what they deal with day in and day out.
The Police - they did a their job and dealt with the owner and the breaking and entering - although I feel they should get a few tips to sharpen up their lock breaking skills........
HHO's - fabulous, mad and wonderful. For those who made accusations of 'hysterical' women there was no such thing at any time. Just people who were prepared to put themselves out to do the right thing for a couple of desperately neglected horses.
Lastly Carrot and Spud - please be assured that they are receiving the very best care and attention and everything will be done to make sure that their remaining time - long or short - is the very best and they are given some dignity.
