Carrots from the feed merchants??

Is there a reason why we cant eat them???

Are they sprayed with something (would think not as horses dont wash them first)... Or is it something to do with them not being pretty enough for the supermarket.

Is there anyone on here who eats them???

I don't think they are sprayed with anything, I know people who eat them but they wash them really well first!

And so does my youngest son

Think its probably due to the looks rather than anything else. After all as long as its a carrot the horse doesn't much care what it looks like

Unlike the supermarket who like the carrots to be straight so they stack better and look 'prettier' on the shelf

My Sister's Fiancee works for one of the big chains and said the carrots are stored with the other animal food (which is tinned or bagged, not netted like carrots) Apparently the storerooms are dusty and dirty and often have mice or rat problems- from this I assume he meant they are dirty and covered in vermin wee and poo?? ... as such probably best to wash them

Horse carrots are classed as not good enough to go on the food shelves in shops(class 2's not 1's)
Still nothing wrong in eating them though

The carrots just don't make the grade for the supermarkets - I get mine straight from the carrot farm - they are huge or really tiny or just funny shapes - I'm childish and still snigger at amusing shaped carrots

- and I eat them as well as the horses and my dog!! I however wash and peel mine first - but then I would if they came from a supermarket!!

Thanks guys.... we eat so many carrots now, and they are like £1 for about 7 carrots in tescos

By the time the dogs have had them, the guinea pig has one and we have had some for tea.... then that is £2's worth gone in an instant.

I was imagining how long one of those massive sacks would last

..... now imagining how I will fit said bag into fridge tomorrow

I eat them!!! So do the horses, and the dogs if they're quick enough!!!

I've even been known to eat them on Christmas Day, as I've forgotten to get some for the dinner...solution, raid the horses's stock!!!!

Nothing wrong with them, they are just generally wrong shape and wrong size to sell for human consumption
