Casp and I have now achieved our major ambition for 2017!

We needed 3 scores over 60% at British Dressage, in order to qualify for the Gypsy Cob Championships at the end of October.

On the 5th Feb we got 66.96% in Intro B. Today we got 65.43% in Intro A, and 68.04% in Intro C!
So in October we will be off to Solihull Riding Club for the Championships!!!

Really thought it might take us a bit longer than that, but I'm not complaining :)

Well done!

We'll be there too hopefully. We went last year and the venue is really nice. It will be less busy in the warmup too as it's just gypsy cobs this year - the natives are off to Vale View I think.

You've got plenty of time to qualify for the prelim too if you wanted! :-)

yikes, was it busy last year!! VV is a longer drive for me but will be worth it if there's a bit less chaos... I think BD really underestimated how popular both champs would be :D

Well done OP, I agree why not crack on and have a go at doing the prelim as well? Be nice to do 2 classes at the champs... ;)

I agree, it was slightly busy! I'm in Herts so VV and Solihull both about 90 miles for me. Vale View is lovely though if you haven't been there before. We've lost a few venues around here so I sometimes venture up there.

Thanks both! Hope to see you there comet!

I am tempted to have a go at Prelim. However, with nowhere to school and nowhere to canter on a hack, it's really hard. Our canter transitions are not great and we don't always get the right leg. We also don't maintain canter easily (he thinks it's too much like hard work!) and he can't keep his balance for long enough.

However, a lady on the next mountain has just had a school installed which she will hire, and/or do lessons. So hopefully we can at least crack the canter!

I know the feeling, mine struggled to canter when I first got him. It did take a while, then suddenly his canter became his stronger pace. Strangely he's always been worse on a hack.

Have you got a field you can school in over summer? If it was me, I'd choose the nicest prelims that suit him to qualify :-) I'm planning on taking mine at a level that neither of us have competed at before. I figured nobody I know will be there so if I make an idiot of myself and mess it up, who cares (I just need to get out and get our qualification at the second level though).

No decent fields, we're on the side of a mountain on clay soil :(

We did 4 Prelims last year at unaffiliated, just to see, and didn't do too badly... a 64% and 3 67%, but our marks have dropped for Intro from mid to high 70's at unaffiliated to mid to high 60's at BD, so I don't think we're ready for Prelim at BD just yet. We will get there though!

I'm planning lots of fittening work to see if that helps, a couple of short sessions a week in the EquiAmi in the round pen (it's really too small to ride in, but ok for lunging) and as many school hires as I can fit in/afford :D
