Hi all,

I had my new yearling castrated on 31st March, he has had a fair bit of swelling on his sheath but yesterday I saw a significant improvement and this morning it was almost back to normal. The area where they made incisions has swollen a little but I guess this is to be expected?

Now I have left the wound totally alone, just cleaning his back legs from the draining fluid. However, with the glorious weather I’m dying to give him an insecticide bath as he is getting quite grubby plus very itchy from all the moulting he is going through.

Would it be too early to do this due to the risk of soapy water getting near the wound area?

Many thanks.

I think it would be ok as long as you don't actually wash the wound with shampoo. Give the wounds a good rinse with the hose after you've finished and I'm sure he will be fine, I had one done a couple of weeks before that and would happily have bathed him after a week or so.

Thanks Appylass, full steam ahead for the weekend then :) Though I think it will most likely be me getting a bath than him as it will be his first
