Oh Mrs J, what an awful situation to be in. I hope you can get something sorted that makes him back off. I'd be tempted to go down the 'goup of big burly men with tempers' route, it would probably be more effective than the official way.

What about those battery powered sensor lights which could be rigged to come on a second before the 'shot'...(with a video camera so you can watch and laugh later !)
If your in Southern Ireland i am sure my OH would help rig it up when we are over there.

Please can anyone who knows vaguely what all this description on this camera actually means, please tell me if it might suit or purpose? They also do free shipping to Ireland which is a huge bonus. They seem to have several on there but my brain has ceased to function I am so confused. I cant see on any of them what the time limit of videoing is and if it can be preset to e.g. 5 minutes when activated.

The reviews give more details than the listing does, but you can set it to activate between the hours of x and y, and to record a specific length of time from when it’s activated. The batteries will last ages (I used to move the squirrel cameras every two weeks for a 6 week period and never changed the batteries) and if you’re checking the SD card regularly you don’t necessarily need a large capacity one but make sure you get a good quality not knock-off one, and long format it before you start.

Thankyou all very much for taking the time to answer. I have now ordered one camera that we will put in the most likely spot. If that works well we shall order a couple more to be strategically placed in other possible lines of entry and evidence of general puerile behaviour from our dear neighbour. I will update if we manage to get any worthwhile clips or videos of the prowler, other than the donkeys and Dolly farting and generally passing their time hanging around the yard. ?

Looks like a pretty decent one. Key bits are:

The IP66 rating - this means ingress protection and is basically dust and rainproof (first digit is dust, second is water, for water the scale goes up to 8 which means you can fully immerse it for long periods).

The night vision - infrared lamp says its 940nm, which means its not visible to the human eye (unless you look really closely), the downside of 940nm is that it doesn't have a huge range, so will pick up things close by but if your prowler is more than about 16m away it may not view them clearly (although it does say 19m trigger distance at night). Lower IR numbers start to become more visible but have a longer range, so its always a trade off. If you are looking at animals on a wildlife cam then it doesn't matter if the red light is visible, if you are trying to covertly observe people you want the IR to fall into the non-visible range. If you need a bigger range then you can set up white light or IR lamps further from the camera and it will extend what the lens can capture, but it looks like the PIR trigger is only 20m anyway so might not make any difference to whether the camera will actually trigger.

It isn't clear as to if it has a pre-record (some will capture images constantly prior to trigger but will not retain them unless it is triggered, so it means that if something triggers the camera it will show you what happened in the 10-15secs prior to that happening. Also not clear if it can be set for specific times after the trigger.

But looks like a good starting point!

You can also do motion sensors for light and noise to surprise them, or pressure sensors too. All sorts of fun games you could play!
