CC on this Oldenburg?

After seeing his videos, reading out his injuries, lack of training and experience I would think about £2.5 at the most.

I don't know what injuries he's had so can't comment on that but it does not suprise me in the least they are asking 6k but it's whether they will find anyone to pay it that's the real question .

Injuries as follows; cut on near fore that got infected; noticeable lameness and box rest. During box rest he got agitated and started kicking the door with his off fore, which then pulled/tore a muscle in his shoulder. He has also had very severe (her words) mud fever last winter.

He has also never been to a show and only been in a trailer once or twice and never been in a box.

IMO too much money .
I would forgive the injuries if the vet oked him .
But I feel on the basis of those admittedly short vidoes ( and of course I have not seen his conformation close to) hes overpriced .
Perhaps the sellers are doing the classic thing of pricing the horse as if the year of slog the buyer will have put in has already been done .
In this market horses who have been left behind for their age and stage quickly lose value .

So do I
However something is going on with how he places the front legs and you would need to see him in real life to assess that .
I can see in the way he was ridden in the videos reasons why the trot is so disappointing and the horses with the naturally good trots often dont produce on as well as the ones that can naturally canter well .
But he is overpriced IMO I have been horse hunting recently and there are some very nice horses out there at reasonable prices for those young enough for the test pilot stage ( sadly I am not ) .
He is overpriced in the current market hes within a whisker of being six

I don't like him at all, but then life would be boring if we all liked the same thing.
3K if he passed the vet and you either wanted a basic riding horse or were willing to take the gamble he would train on well.

At the end of the day he is worth what the seller is willing to let him go for and the buyer is willing to pay.

It would be a right scrabble if we all liked the same horses .
As a buyer the only thing that should interest you is how much is it worth to you to own him.

He would move completly differently with a proper rider on board. He's not able to show a fraction of his true potential with this rider- I would love to see what he could really do with someone more experienced as I think he would be very smart and nice. He would need time to build up strength and power . Obviously not Totilas but he is still a very nice horse! I'd love to buy a horse like this and show what can be done with the correct riding and work.

wow, I don't like his hindleg at all and I don't like his trot he doesn't get his hooves out of the sand enough for me, hes my favourite colour though!

Not my cup of tea at all. Very out behind, no push through the hips and no swing over the back.

He may well be immature in terms of education, but a horse with potential will show it regardless...

The combination of age, lack of education, topped off with the health issues... You couldn't pay me to have him.

This exactly. At first I was mildly interested as I thought he might be a bit of a bargain. I'd go for the colt (further back on thread) anyday!

Did you ever find out the Oldenburg's dam's pedigree Jenny? Damlines are the very important, sometimes more so than the sireline. I really do not think his dam is an Oldenburg because he really doesn't look like an horse with an Oldenburg mother and he doesn;t look like an Oldenburg himself.

No she didn't know. She thought the mare was about 16.2, but wasn't sure. I can't believe for an extra £500 I can get a pink papered Han colt from prolific sirelines and excellent line of Pr. St mares!

So she might even be just 'some mare' most likely a TB. That's okay if she is approved but it's odd that he's sooooo TBx looking as usually the only TB mares who are approved for breeding with the Oldenburg Verband are big stocky NH type mares with tons of substance. Does she not have a passport for him then?

And yes, the colt has very nice bloodlines and is out of a very nicely bred, quality dam. You know which one I'd pick lol! No contest I'm afraid. :smile3:

Unless the 5 yo rides a lot better than it looks it's going to worth halfish what they are asking if mum was a bog standard mare.
The colt looks lovely if you have the facilities to raise him and suitable company for him.
This is quite an wide ranging horse hunt from a five yo who's behind and will need a lot of work immediatly and a colt , you sound like me .

Yes, luckily I have the facilities and my other horse for company :) To be honest, I don't really know why I looked at him in the first place. It was mainly out of curiosity I think! I don't want anything over 3 years old and I don't want anything that's been broken in!
